President Obama released a 7-minute video called “Forward" last week. It’s the usual Obama meme of Bush wrecked everything and obstructionist Republicans are halting progress. No mention of the fact that the Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate by large majorities for the first two years of Obama’s term.
The video begins by saying how incredibly bad things were in 2008, when Bush was president. You know, when the annual deficit was roughly 1/3 of what it is today. Then it goes on to tout President Obama’s accomplishments, like saving the economy (pay no attention to the real unemployment rate behind the curtain), and the auto industry (debatable).
Plus he, like, totally fixed the over-regulated health insurance industry by adding more regulations. Or something.
But then!! The evil Republicans came in, and instead of “working together to lift America up, [they] were waging a campaign to tear the president down.” Following that statement is a montage of prominent Republicans publically saying, “Vote no!” to President Obama’s policies.
Democrats practically sneer as they say, “Republicans are the Party of No,” like it’s a bad thing. It’s never wrong to say no when you disagree with something. Heck, not a single Democrat agreed with President Obama’s proposed budget, so why don’t we call them the Party of No?
The word NO can be a good thing when it’s the answer to the question of whether or not to spend money that’s just not there. It would be amazing to live in a land where everyone worked according to their ability, and took only according to their need -- but we don’t. We live in an imperfect world, where people work as hard as they need to in order to pay for the things they want/need to buy.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. We have family, friends, activities, hobbies, etc. that enhance our lives. We have goals and ambitions in our professional lives too. The trick is to find that balance that works for us. The government coming in and demanding that people start paying other people’s bills is not an incentive to anyone to be as productive as possible.
Videos like this one are incredibly frustrating because they sound wonderful but are not based in reality. Of course prosperity for all would be wonderful, but money doesn’t grow on trees. Taking money from someone that’s earned it to pay someone else’s medical bills (or any bills) isn’t charity -- it’s theft.
Nothing wrong with saying no to that.

It always makes me laugh, when Democrats say the Republicans are the party of no. Like they were saying yes, when they were in power starting in 2006 under Bush. But democrats forget that they were in power since then. Democrats forget that they could of passed everything they wanted when they had the super majority.
I find it amusing that President Obama wants us to focus on the next 4 years and not focus on the past 3 years. I wonder if that's because he really has no record to focus on? If your life has not gotten better in the past 3 years, then you should really ask yourself what will be better in the next 4. I know for me the answer is no so that's why I won't be voting for him.
Jenny, you are just SO predictable. I didn't even read the whole article, all I had to do was read the first sentence and I knew this was a Jenny Erickson piece.
Facts, Angel, facts. The economy is not recovering, nor has Pres. Obama or the Democrats enacted policies intended to cause a recovery. The auto industry was not "saved". Thousands of dealerships were closed by the Obama administration causing tens of thousands to lose jobs. Chrysler was forcibly sold to a foreign auto company. Not to mention the destruction of thousands of vehicles under the cash for clunkers programs. All of which had a detrimental effect on the auto industry. Have you tried to purchase an automobile in the last few years? Prices for new and used vehicles have skyrocketed. Gas prices have climbed exponentially. Rising prices are NOT good for the economy. I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but government policies affect the prices of products and service. A little bit research on your part would show all of this to be true. Research is always a better way to educate yourself than watching or reading "the news".
We are so much worse off. I can't even watch the video. I don't want to ruin my day.
Please vote NObama in Nov.
How about coming up with a different plan to fix our countries failing healthcare system. How about coming up with a different plan to help our economy. (And BTW.. the republicans plans of cutting taxes for the rich to help boost job creation is NOT an option.. it doesn't work.. and won't work in the future...)
I voted for Obama in 2008 and I will again this year. I am ashamed as a citizen of this country, as an intelligent woman, and as a mother, of what the repubican party has turned thier focus towards. The headlines of defunding Planned Parenthood, "personhood" amendments, more and more anti-abortion laws, talk of reinstating Don't Ask Don't Tell, sounds more like the party of "let me into your bedroom." Creepy.
I'll be moving Forward with the rest of the world. Thanks.
