President Obama released a 7-minute video called “Forward" last week. It’s the usual Obama meme of Bush wrecked everything and obstructionist Republicans are halting progress. No mention of the fact that the Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate by large majorities for the first two years of Obama’s term.
The video begins by saying how incredibly bad things were in 2008, when Bush was president. You know, when the annual deficit was roughly 1/3 of what it is today. Then it goes on to tout President Obama’s accomplishments, like saving the economy (pay no attention to the real unemployment rate behind the curtain), and the auto industry (debatable).
Plus he, like, totally fixed the over-regulated health insurance industry by adding more regulations. Or something.
But then!! The evil Republicans came in, and instead of “working together to lift America up, [they] were waging a campaign to tear the president down.” Following that statement is a montage of prominent Republicans publically saying, “Vote no!” to President Obama’s policies.
Democrats practically sneer as they say, “Republicans are the Party of No,” like it’s a bad thing. It’s never wrong to say no when you disagree with something. Heck, not a single Democrat agreed with President Obama’s proposed budget, so why don’t we call them the Party of No?
The word NO can be a good thing when it’s the answer to the question of whether or not to spend money that’s just not there. It would be amazing to live in a land where everyone worked according to their ability, and took only according to their need -- but we don’t. We live in an imperfect world, where people work as hard as they need to in order to pay for the things they want/need to buy.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. We have family, friends, activities, hobbies, etc. that enhance our lives. We have goals and ambitions in our professional lives too. The trick is to find that balance that works for us. The government coming in and demanding that people start paying other people’s bills is not an incentive to anyone to be as productive as possible.
Videos like this one are incredibly frustrating because they sound wonderful but are not based in reality. Of course prosperity for all would be wonderful, but money doesn’t grow on trees. Taking money from someone that’s earned it to pay someone else’s medical bills (or any bills) isn’t charity -- it’s theft.
Nothing wrong with saying no to that.

angel: "Floridamom96 - (not sure this isn't one person posting under diff. names) - kind of embarrassing that you don't know Bush left office at the end of January 2009, not December 2008."
How old are you, angel? You're makin' me laugh here, girl, (although not sure this isn't one person posting under diff names.) LOL -- keep it up -- entertaining!
for angel who seems to need help: U.S. Presidents take the Oath of Office on January 20. (1933 -- 20th Amendment to the Constitution). From time of the election (the prior November) the sitting President (except for "necessary business") effectively and courteously begins to shut down operations to smoothly cede contol to the incoming Administration. That's just the way it works.
[A notable exception to this generally smooth operation was the Democrat Clinton Administration whose members trashed offices, tampered with computer equipment, and removed our property (items in the White House belonging to the American Public) to the Clintons' private residence. Our property was later ORDERED to be returned to the White House. Even the Los Angeles Times reported on this theft.]
Embarrassing, huh? It's embarrassing to me, and I'm not a Democrat.
And obama made Hillary Secretary of State! Go figure, right, angel?
It's said the New York Time owes One Billion Dollars ($$!) in debt. You can't find the answer on Google, 'cause all "results" for the question have been "google-bombed" by NYT supporters who are trying hard to hide the truth.
I don't find it incredulous that the failing, fabled "Grey Lady" is in that much trouble. That paper's been in the business of lies for too long, angel.
@ jasmine86, AutumnLeaves, angel, see, Littlelady:
billsfan's very first comment on this article on May 6 pointed out that: "Democrats forget that they could of passed everything they wanted when they had the super majority."
Control of the White House, the House of Representatives, the Senate for TWO WHOLE YEARS. What did the Obama Adminstration do with that power?
Well, they whined that , um, "Republicans are the party of "NO!" Laughable stuff.
What did the HopenChange Administration do with that power except cram obamacare down Amercans' throats against opposition of the majority of voters? [ Remember, there was a "health care crisis"] WHAT did Democrats accomplish? Huh? Can't hear you. Dems had all the power. What'd they accomplish?
BTW, have Democrats passed a budget yet?
Texas, can you hear the crickets chirping?
Floridamom96: "Texas, can you hear the crickets chirping?
Yes, lol! And for such small critters, they make a DEAFENING noise!
Meanwhile, over on the "Get in Her Vagina" (! -- class act) thread, the cricket chorus is tuning up. :-)
Floridamom, turn up the volume and enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQFEY9RIRJA
