President Obama released a 7-minute video called “Forward" last week. It’s the usual Obama meme of Bush wrecked everything and obstructionist Republicans are halting progress. No mention of the fact that the Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate by large majorities for the first two years of Obama’s term.
The video begins by saying how incredibly bad things were in 2008, when Bush was president. You know, when the annual deficit was roughly 1/3 of what it is today. Then it goes on to tout President Obama’s accomplishments, like saving the economy (pay no attention to the real unemployment rate behind the curtain), and the auto industry (debatable).
Plus he, like, totally fixed the over-regulated health insurance industry by adding more regulations. Or something.
But then!! The evil Republicans came in, and instead of “working together to lift America up, [they] were waging a campaign to tear the president down.” Following that statement is a montage of prominent Republicans publically saying, “Vote no!” to President Obama’s policies.
Democrats practically sneer as they say, “Republicans are the Party of No,” like it’s a bad thing. It’s never wrong to say no when you disagree with something. Heck, not a single Democrat agreed with President Obama’s proposed budget, so why don’t we call them the Party of No?
The word NO can be a good thing when it’s the answer to the question of whether or not to spend money that’s just not there. It would be amazing to live in a land where everyone worked according to their ability, and took only according to their need -- but we don’t. We live in an imperfect world, where people work as hard as they need to in order to pay for the things they want/need to buy.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. We have family, friends, activities, hobbies, etc. that enhance our lives. We have goals and ambitions in our professional lives too. The trick is to find that balance that works for us. The government coming in and demanding that people start paying other people’s bills is not an incentive to anyone to be as productive as possible.
Videos like this one are incredibly frustrating because they sound wonderful but are not based in reality. Of course prosperity for all would be wonderful, but money doesn’t grow on trees. Taking money from someone that’s earned it to pay someone else’s medical bills (or any bills) isn’t charity -- it’s theft.
Nothing wrong with saying no to that.

However, Hilary would have made many of the same decisions Obama did... Sooo..... How is he that different?
Littlelady: "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president." - Mitch McConnell. Littlelady, can you name one Democrat who would not say the same thing about a Republican President running for re-election?
Littlelady: "GOP leadership . . . - they refused to do the work they were sent there to do. They didn't seek to achieve progress for the American people, they sought solely to unseat the President." That is incorrect. It is the Democrats who have certainly "refused to do the work they were sent there to do" - why they have refused to pass a budget since obama took office?
My household runs within a budget & I'll bet your does too -- why can't the Democrats crank out a budget so the guy who lives in Our House can present it to America? Is that too much to ask?
The current Republican-majority House of Representatives has debated, voted on and passed over 25 jobs bills, many of them with bi-partisan support; each of the bills seeks to remove government barriers that hurt job growth. Why has the Democrat-majority Senate failed to vote on even one of those bills?
Littlelady: "[Republicans] didn't compromise or work together - they just said NO." Again, incorrect; as I just illustrated, it is the Democrats who just say "NO".
Angel: "Please read the United States Treasury Department's data on the national debt." LOL! No thanks, Angel. Obama's Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is a known tax-cheat.
"rescuing the economy costs money" So we need to spend more money? Logical? Heck yeah, if you work for obama!
Joe Biden, Economics Expert: “We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation. Now, people when I say that look at me and say, ‘What are you talking about, Joe? You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?’
“The answer is yes, that's what I’m telling you.” It's always Opposite Day w/this Administration!
Angel, please list the "rescue" operations obama has launched.
"I'm sure I could find actual facts and statistics to challenge the rest of your list."
Do tell, Angel. America is "all ears". :-)
Angel: "and they are using quotes and statistics from some of the most important economists in the U.S." Like who?
"the bizarre rantings of texasmomma" Nice use of Alinsky, Angel -- make personal attacks when you don't have facts to back up your position. (Leftists! What about the "New Tone" & "civility" obama's always preaching about? lol!)
Angel, you rely upon "major U.S. news organizations"? Sorry to break it to you, but these media & print outfits don't report news and facts any more - more like opinions and wish-casting. They are losing revenue, they've lost credibility, and more people turn to the "New Media" everyday for unbiased reporting: blogs, Twitter, smart phones, etc. Mainstream media are dinosaurs who continue to shoot themselves in the foot with their dishonesty. Example: CBS? Home of noted forger Dan Rather?
You tout the Department of Labor? They just tried to tell farmers that their kids couldn't work on family farms or join Future Farmers of America-type organizations!
"Headlines now read gas prices are falling". Of course they do, Angel, and thanks for a perfect example: "headlines say gas prices falling"; REALITY - they're steadily going UP where I live, just like my grocery & utility bills.
Angel: "Why would anyone want to continue to debate you, since you don't seem to believe news reports, or government facts and figures anyways?" Angel, there's nothing wrong with healthy skepticism, especially when it comes to the federal government (and likely slanted news reports).
You poor thing, I'm beginning to see that you're not so much argumentative, just naive. Citing the New York Times repeatedly? This once respected paper has fallen far - its readership has noticed its bias and habit of burying the few facts they do report in back pages, all resulting in huge layoffs, canceled subscriptions and loss of revenue.
[Some of this goes back decades to the 1920s & '30s when noted Stalin apologist NYT reporter Walter Duranty lied repeatedly about Stalin's aims, the famine, Stalin's deliberate starvation murders of millions of people. The NYT was mighty proud when Duranty won a Pulitzer. There are ongoing, credible efforts to have the Pulitzer Committee strip the award from him. Which he richly deserves to have happen, even post-humously.]
Lastly, Angel, a note about Guantanamo which obama promised he would close as soon as he became President. On his second full day in office, he issued an executive order to review the disposition of prisoners being held at the naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and ordered that the detention facility be closed within a year.
What happened to that promise?
And who did obama appoint to be Attorney General of U.S.? Eric Holder (of Fast & Furious fame) who was a senior partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling which represented 17 suspected terrorists being held at Guantanamo Bay. (Conflict of interest? Nothing to see here, move along!)
Also, While Deputy Attorney General, Holder pushed for the release of 16 violent FALN terrorists against the advice of the FBI, the US Attorneys who prosecuted them and the NYPD officers who were maimed by them. This suggests that he was perfectly willing to put politics before the national security interests of the country. He is not suited for the job of attorney general, which is central to the issues surrounding the disposition of war on terror detainees.
And you want to keep this crew in Washington, Angel?
