Obama Campaign Goes “Forward” (VIDEO)

obama forward flagPresident Obama released a 7-minute video called “Forward" last week. It’s the usual Obama meme of Bush wrecked everything and obstructionist Republicans are halting progress. No mention of the fact that the Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate by large majorities for the first two years of Obama’s term.

The video begins by saying how incredibly bad things were in 2008, when Bush was president. You know, when the annual deficit was roughly 1/3 of what it is today. Then it goes on to tout President Obama’s accomplishments, like saving the economy (pay no attention to the real unemployment rate behind the curtain), and the auto industry (debatable).

Plus he, like, totally fixed the over-regulated health insurance industry by adding more regulations. Or something.

But then!! The evil Republicans came in, and instead of “working together to lift America up, [they] were waging a campaign to tear the president down.” Following that statement is a montage of prominent Republicans publically saying, “Vote no!” to President Obama’s policies.

Democrats practically sneer as they say, “Republicans are the Party of No,” like it’s a bad thing. It’s never wrong to say no when you disagree with something. Heck, not a single Democrat agreed with President Obama’s proposed budget, so why don’t we call them the Party of No?

The word NO can be a good thing when it’s the answer to the question of whether or not to spend money that’s just not there. It would be amazing to live in a land where everyone worked according to their ability, and took only according to their need -- but we don’t. We live in an imperfect world, where people work as hard as they need to in order to pay for the things they want/need to buy.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. We have family, friends, activities, hobbies, etc. that enhance our lives. We have goals and ambitions in our professional lives too. The trick is to find that balance that works for us. The government coming in and demanding that people start paying other people’s bills is not an incentive to anyone to be as productive as possible.

Videos like this one are incredibly frustrating because they sound wonderful but are not based in reality. Of course prosperity for all would be wonderful, but money doesn’t grow on trees. Taking money from someone that’s earned it to pay someone else’s medical bills (or any bills) isn’t charity -- it’s theft.

Nothing wrong with saying no to that.

2012 election, barack obama

It always makes me laugh, when Democrats say the Republicans are the party of no.  Like they were saying yes, when they were in power starting in 2006 under Bush.  But democrats forget that they were in power since then.  Democrats forget that they could of passed everything they wanted when they had the super majority.

Thank you, Jenny, for not sipping the liberal kool aid that all the other bloggers on this site seem to have flowing through their veins like an IV drop

I find it amusing that President Obama wants us to focus on the next 4 years and not focus on the past 3 years.  I wonder if that's because he really has no record to focus on? If your life has not gotten better in the past 3 years, then you should really ask yourself what will be better in the next 4. I know for me the answer is no so that's why I won't be voting for him.

zandhmom2 - do you EVER READ any news? Ever since Obama became President, the stock market has rebounded, the auto industry has been saved, terrorist Osama Bin Laden has been killed (which both Bush and Clinton failed to do,) dozens of other terrorist threats have been eliminated, our economy has continued to recover while some of our largest trade partners in Europe, such as Britain, slid back into or are entering into a recession.
Jenny - to the auto industry, there is no debate about it being rescued; real unemployment - then come clean with the truth about numbers under every president; Democrats did not have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate after the 2008 election. And Jenny, Republicans and Democrats alike have caused both the debt and deficits to rise significantly. But fighting wars to protect citizens cost money, as does rescuing an economy.

Jenny, you are just SO predictable. I didn't even read the whole article, all I had to do was read the first sentence and I knew this was a Jenny Erickson piece.

Facts, Angel, facts. The economy is not recovering, nor has Pres. Obama or the Democrats enacted policies intended to cause a recovery. The auto industry was not "saved". Thousands of dealerships were closed by the Obama administration causing tens of thousands to lose jobs. Chrysler was forcibly sold to a foreign auto company. Not to mention the destruction of thousands of vehicles under the  cash for clunkers programs. All of which had a detrimental effect on the auto industry. Have you tried to purchase an automobile in the last few years? Prices for new and used vehicles have skyrocketed. Gas prices have climbed exponentially. Rising prices are NOT good for the economy. I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but government policies affect the prices of products and service. A little bit research on your part would show all of this to be true. Research is always a better way to educate yourself than watching or reading "the news".

The video is well made. I am kind of wondering what Jenny thought the president would put out in an election year. I agree that it is not 100% accurate and takes things out of context to make them reflect more positively on the president but its par for the course in an election. Obama was not the first or last to do this and if you expected anything less I am confused. it is a campaign video - duh!. There are much better things to write an article about....

JAFE JAFE

We are so much worse off. I can't even watch the video. I don't want to ruin my day.

Please vote NObama in Nov.

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president." - Mitch McConnell. Is Jenny saying he didn't really say that? It was an actual political strategy to say NO to anything Obama. Booohooo not that it didn't work too well. GOP leadership didn't take a stand for what they didn't agree with - they refused to do the work they were sent there to do. They didn't seek to achieve progress for the American people, they sought solely to unseat the President. They didn't compromise or work together - they just said NO. Now I will be saying NO to this dysfunctional thinking by making sure it doesn't work. OBAMA 2012!!!

You republicans have one problem... You have no other options to give!! As an left leaning INDEPENDENT, I'm willing to be open minded (unlike most of you predictable right and left wingers). I'm willing to listen to different options and solutions but you HAVE NONE. You whine and complain about this president, and you vote MITT as your nomination?? Most of you can't even stand the guy... Just read this article as exhibit A. No mention of your other option!! Just bash bash bash. YAWN.

How about coming up with a different plan to fix our countries failing healthcare system. How about coming up with a different plan to help our economy. (And BTW.. the republicans plans of cutting taxes for the rich to help boost job creation is NOT an option.. it doesn't work.. and won't work in the future...)

I voted for Obama in 2008 and I will again this year. I am ashamed as a citizen of this country, as an intelligent woman, and as a mother, of what the repubican party has turned thier focus towards. The headlines of defunding Planned Parenthood, "personhood" amendments, more and more anti-abortion laws, talk of reinstating Don't Ask Don't Tell, sounds more like the party of "let me into your bedroom." Creepy.

I'll be moving Forward with the rest of the world. Thanks.
