Child Abuse Story So Twisted You'll Wonder Why Mom Wasn't Locked Up Sooner

bleachImagine the worst case of child abuse you've heard in the past few years. Now double it. You might be somewhere near the horror of what happened to the Washington State toddler who had bleach repeatedly poured in her eyes.

And now for the coup de grace. The woman charged with this heinous cruelty is the girl's own mother. Jennifer Mothershead (hard to believe, but yes, that's her real name) has been charged with first-degree child assault for allegedly causing permanent vision damage to her then 15-month-old daughter in May 2011.

I have just one question.

How did it get this far?

Pardon me if I sound naive, but I don't think a normal person simply wakes up one morning and says, "Today, I think I will become a monster." And monster is really the only word I can use to describe the kind of person who pours bleach into a child's eyes, describing it as "eye drops" to "treat" an eye infection. A "mother" certainly wouldn't do that.

So if Jennifer Mothershead did this to her daughter, she is a monster, plain and simple. How did someone not notice this side of her before? Why wasn't this little girl already living with her father (who is now her legal guardian)? I don't mean to shift blame for this despicable act to anyone else.

But when child abuse is this depraved, I have to wonder: weren't there signs that this person was not fit to care for a young life? Didn't someone see something was ... off? Maybe they didn't. Maybe this is just my reaction because I want to live in a world where there are signs, where we can prevent children from suffering such unspeakable horrors. Sadly, instead, I live in a world where there are people who pour bleach in the eyes of an 18-month-old child.

Did you ever have the feeling that someone just was not fit to be a parent? What tipped you off?

How awful.

The worst child abuse case I heard about was one from the UK.  I read about his case on youtube.  Child services was involved.  They killed the child after torturing him for a long time.  They hid the damage by covering the child in chocolate so that he looked dirty instead of bruised up.  It hurts because CPS was right there, they could have saved this baby.

I'm a foster parent who works for the State in the foster care field, as well.  I can tell you that yes, I've seen an amazing number of people who simply aren't fit to be parents.  They truly do not care, which is hard to see for someone like me who loves all of the kids, none of whom are "mine".    People are crazy, people are selfish, and mostly, people are high.

My sisters friend had 7 week old twin sons and she stayed at my moms house for a couple days. One day I was there and when I tried looking at one of her babies she got like weird acting like she didnt want me to look at him I thought it was cuz she didnt know me but a week later one of her sons was dead at the funeral I could see the bruises covering his face. Turns out the dad would cover their mouth and nose when they cried til thewy stopped breathing then would bite them to shock them into breathing. Hed also squeeze them hit them and swing them by their legs. The surviving twin had fractured ribs and femur. I will always feel horrible that I didnt notice something was wrong. I will never forget the morning I got the phone call about him being dead. I will always have that image of his lifeless bruised up body laying in that casket. It was horrible. I beg everyone if something feels off say something better be safe than sorry. Maybe if me or my sister had said something that little boy would still be alive

By the way I didnt see nything suspicious I just thought it was off that she wouldnt let me near him. My sister saw bruises on his face and when she asked about it the mom said the twins fight 7 week old babies cant fight. And later on when I saw her facebook i saw that her babies were bruised in every picture and nobody said anything. If only one of her friends would have spoke up or called cps. But then again Ive seen how cps doesnt work around here.

Oh this is horrible! I myself was abused as a child and was taken alway by the state. Took a lot of visits from CPS, from what I remember. I would think it is hard for someone to call CPS on someone they know, your scared if your right and your worried what if your wrong. I've called on a neighbor before in my old apt complex who would lock her 12 yr old son outside all day during the summer (90 to 100 degree heat),with no food and water. The mom was pissed but at least she was on someone's radar now.

They have a saying in Greek that says "Watch over (whoever) like you watch your eyes" because we all know our vision is precious and once gone cannot be replaced. So, so, so sad for this little girl. Someone should let the mother test out the drops herself and see how they work!!

Its just so hard cause cps doesnt alwayts take everything seriously Ive seen people who lose their kids for no reason and ive also seen people who need to lose their kids but dont. Theres also ppl who use cps as a im mad at you so im calling kind of thing. My mom has 3 young kids and last year my dads ex called on my mom cuz she was mad at her. Cps came in saw the house was clean there was food kids were clean and not abused and they couldnt believe the abuse of the system by my dads ex. Btw my mom takes good care of her kids she doesnt even spank them.

oh and the girl i knew whos son died she allowed her bf to abuse them because she was afraid of losing him now one sons dead the other taken away and if convicted shes facing to 15 yr charges and hes facing 2 15 year charges and a life sentence soi in the end by allowing him to abuse her children she lost her children her man and pretty much her life all at 18 years old... Some people are so dumb..... and an innocent baby had to pay for her stupidity with his life... And his brother will one day find out that his father killed his twin his other galf and his mother sat by and let it happen...
