Just a few days before the official launch of his reelection campaign, President Obama gave a speech centering around issues that matter most to women and moms yesterday-- and CafeMom was there to cover it.
"Women are not a special interest group," he told a rapt group of several hundred women at the National Issues Conference, hosted by the Democratic National Committee. He went on to say that women comprise 80% of his own household (his mother-in-law moved in to the White House along with the Obamas) and said that both in his personal and public life, "I've got a vested interest in making sure women do well."
See how Mr. Obama is backing up that claim after the jump.
Mr. Obama peppered his remarks with personal anecdotes about his family, including his own mother, who was a single mom and for a time used food stamps to feed her family. He also talked about how tough the work/home balance has been for his wife, Michelle, and spoke about how his daughters have inspired him in his role as President.
As a father, the highlight of my day is asking my daughters about theirs. Their hopes and their futures are what drive me every day I step into the Oval Office. Every decision I make is all about making sure they and all our daughters and all our sons grow up in a country that gives them the chance to be anything they set their minds to; a country where more doors are open to them than were ever open to us.
He went on to highlight his achievements in education reform, health care reform, and ensuring that women earn the same as men, by signing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law. "As long as I’m president, we are going to keep moving forward," he said. "You can count on that. You don’t have to take my word on it – you’ve got my signature on it."
Mr. Obama also warned that Republicans are working to undo the advances made in women's issues over the last several decades:
And now we've got governors and legislatures across the river in Virginia, up the road in Pennsylvania and all across the country saying that women can’t be trusted to make your own decisions. They’re pushing and passing bills forcing women to get ultrasounds, even if they don’t want one. And if you don’t like it, the governor of Pennsylvania said you can “close your eyes.” When it comes to what's going on out there, you're not going to close your eyes. Women across America aren't closing their eyes. As long as I'm President, I won't either.
Women's matters should remain in the spotlight as we head toward November. A recent Quinnipiac poll shows Obama is leading Mitt Romney among women, 49 percent to 39 percent. Expect Romney to continue trying to bridge that gap in the coming months.
In the meantime, what do you think about Mr. Obama's remarks? Is he the best advocate for women?

Obama is full of S%^T. All he is doing now is catering to the female population in the U.S. to try to win over additional votes. I can't wait for him to be voted out.
Please don't think all Texans are uneducated nuts just because of Texas Mama. (She talks about politics in the comment section of articles that have nothing to do with politics!)
I'm from Texas, I know Republicans tend to be very religious and I don't agree with many new laws they wish to pass.
Then again, I suppose I am just an "evil" Atheist. *eyeroll*
Laura Jerpseth: "Please don't think all Texans are uneducated nuts just because of Texas Mama."
Thanks for the civil tone (lol!), Laura, and thanks for being another example of how Leftists treat someone who doesn't agree with them. Just like Lori Heulitt a few comments back, you've proven my point about the way Leftists "debate". You don't have facts to back up your position, so you attack the messenger. Obama would be proud of you!
Laura Jerpseth: "She talks about politics in the comment section of articles that have nothing to do with politics!"
Um, this article, in a column titled "Behind the Vote", is about President Obama speaking to a group hosted by the Democratic National Committee wherein he discussed legislation put forth by him regarding national issues of education, health care and compensation. The author references political polls and the presidential election to be held in November 2012.
And your position is that this article is not about politics?
Would you prefer to discuss the price of tea in China?
Really, Lindsay Ferrier -- your photo credit "Image via TruthTeam2012". Is the only photo you could run just happen to link to the obama campaign's #SnitchCentral? The website run by the obama campaign "Truth Team 2012" along with its sister site (likewise run by obama called "Attack Watch"), both of which urge citizens to report on/turn in anyone to the federal government who doesn't agree with obama's policies? Both of which link from obama's Official Campaign Website?
Of the hundreds of thousands of photos of this man, you choose one that links to his campaign website and Twitter feed? This is so blatant. Media bias is a live and well on CafeMom.
In the interest of fairness, at least let your readers know that there is are Twitter accounts that exist to refute "TruthTeam2012". Here's the link to TruthTeamWatch https://twitter.com/#!/truthteamwatch and here is the link to TruthTeamWatchers https://twitter.com/#!/TruthWatchers. Here is the link to the Twitter hashtag #AttackWatch https://twitter.com/#!/search/attackwatch.
Glad I could help Ms. Ferrier.
First of all, even though this article is about politics, you still talk about politics on different, non-political articles. I admit what I said was poorly worded.
Now, unlike many Republicans, I am pro-choice. I would rather not have laws making it more difficult for women to get abortions. I am also a supporter of homosexual marrage and keeping church and state seperate.
Laura do yourself a favor and just admit you got SPANKED by Texasmamma. LOL SHE DOES always back up her posts with facts, and I have YET to see someone who opposed her, fire back with ANYTHING but leftist rhetoric, NOT facts. Your post is a prime example. Don't don't bring a wet noodle to a gun fight sweetie. If you are a Texan YOU should know this! I SOOOOOO <3 Texasmamma! and PS. You CAN be a republican while supporting abortion or gay marriage. FYI.
"I have YET to see someone who opposed her, fire back with ANYTHING but leftist rhetoric, NOT facts. ...Don't don't bring a wet noodle to a gun fight sweetie."
WHEW! I'm SO RELIEVED I don't need to go anywhere else for the true, cold political facts that astonishingly elude other hard NEWS outlets... Thank you so much... y'all !!!
