'Equal Pay' Ryan Gosling Thinks You Deserve a Raise

Yum! 5

equal pay ryan goslingHappy Equal Pay for Equal Work day! Do you know who else supports equal pay for women? Ryan Gosling. Of course. How do we know? From the interview he just gave! KIDDING. In my dreams. No, this is something dreamed up by The Daily Muse: Equal Pay Day Ryan Gosling.

Consider this an offshoot of Feminist Ryan Gosling. Did you know it's been 50 years since we passed the Equal Pay Act -- and women still aren't paid equally for doing the same work men do? That's why Daily Muse thought we might need some extra handsome encouragement to "to remind you why you deserve to be paid what you’re worth, and you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for it." Right on, Ryan! Speak to us.

It's still just 77%? Seriously? Oh, that pisses me off. Think of everything we could be doing with that extra 33% men get. And don't get me started on that "but men need it more" bullshit.

Thank you for saying so, Equal Pay Ryan Gosling. I couldn't have put it better myself. Because I don't have a penis. But that doesn't mean I should get paid less than penis-havers do!

So here's a fun story. Long ago when I worked for another company I found out that my male colleague, who was hired after I was and did not have more experience and certainly wasn't pulling off the same quality or quantity of work I was, made about $15K more a year than I did. What did I do? I marched right into my boss' office and grabbed him by the balls and made him give me a raise, that's what!

I made up that part about the balls. But the rest is for real. And I got that raise. Eventually I was promoted over the guy, too. So this is all to say -- no one is just going to give it to you ladies. You earn it, and then you demand it.

Do you know if you're paid equally for the same work your male colleagues do?

I was a bank teller in high school. My boyfriend at the time was hired at the same time as me by the same bank. Even though I had money-handling experience and he didn't, he was paid more than me. Lame.

I work on a team with four girls and one male - the head honcho is also a male. Two of us girls do a majority of the work for the team yet the male makes more then us combined. He uses our work as his and I've spoken up and it falls on deaf ears. If I didn't need the income I would've walked out a long time ago. It's unfair and total bullshit

I am the highest paid director in my job which says something considering I work in highly male-dominated field, but it was a tough fight to get there. Beyond proving my worth in my work, I made myself an absolutely invaluable member of my team, and a stern talking with my boss insured that I would be earning my fair share, based on the quantity and quality of my work and not my gender.

So the 77% + 33% was a joke right? I just didn't get it...

@LoSawyer
I thought I was the only one that saw that. Thanks for noticing :D
