If this was my legacy as a politician, I'd be psyched. Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, saw a home engulfed in flames, heard screams from inside, and just knew what he had to do. He fearlessly ran into the inferno, found the woman in distress and carried her out of danger, over his shoulder, as the house's ceiling started caving in. Amazing. What a gutsy guy! There are some Mayor's who go to ribbon cutting ceremonies, push pennies around, and give speeches, then there are Mayors who do all that PLUS save citizens' lives by risking their own. Cory Booker has taken a page out of Ryan Gosling's playbook and is now a regular old superhero who's there at the right place at the right time, when women need him most. Somebody get this man an agent.
I can just see it now ... Cory Booker and Ryan Gosling star in one of this summer's biggest blockbusters: Saving Humanity, One Woman at a Time: The Cory Booker & Ryan Gosling Story: Rescuing the Ladies Never Looked So Good. Pass me the popcorn, please. I'll see that hit in theaters over and over, even if it's just a compilation of terrible quality YouTube footage taken by fans on the scene.
Booker's been accused of being too "Hollywood" in his role as Mayor -- some say he likes the spotlight a little too much -- but his opponents will have a hard time cutting down Booker for this latest stunt. Even if rescuing a woman from a burning building does seem like something that would only happen on an L.A. sound stage, Booker deserves all the credit and praise for this heroic, albeit dramatic, act of valor.
Your move, Gosling.
What do you think of Booker's courageousness?
