Feeling conflicted about the death penalty? Then David Alan Gore won't make you feel much better. The convicted serial killer is on a fast train to execution right now, and it's his own fault.
He's spent the last five years writing letters (now published in a book) bragging about how he raped and killed four teenagers and two adult women some 30 years ago in Florida. Bragging!? Now people, I am about as liberal as they come. I have let my gay male buddy take my then-toddler daughter into a bathroom alone. I have friends who have had abortions, and I don't judge them one bit.
By that rubric, I'm supposed to hate the death penalty. But when it comes to David Alan Gore, I have three words for you.
Kill the bastard.
Yeah. That's right. You read that right. Liberal blogger me has admitted she's OK with Republican Governor Rick Scott's decision to sign off on Gore's death warrant and send him to be killed by the state on April 12. Do not pass go, do not go to jail (well, OK, he's already there), do not get some last minute reprieve from a judge.
You'll have to forgive me. I just read that a man thinks that killing innocent children is something to brag about. Some would say my flip flop on the death penalty in this case makes me a bad person. I'd say it makes me human to feel for the kids first.
It's a marker of just how far society has fallen in the hottest movie of the moment, The Hunger Games, that the people sacrificed for sport are kids, sent to fight to their death while people place bets. Protecting our kids is a cornerstone of our society, it's a sign that there is still hope and good in this world.
So go ahead, say we're better than David Alan Gore, that we should rise above. I want to. I know I should. But today, I just can't.
How about you? What do you think should happen to a man who brags about killing and raping children?

It makes NO SENSE to waste anyones time and money to try to 'rehabilitate' this disgusting POS! i'm confused, who in their right mind would think or want this man to be rehabilitated!?! it will not take away the pain and hell he's put so many people through.... how about the people who believe in this rehabilitation stuff, send their children off to a prisoner (murderer, child molester, rapist) who has been 'helped' or 'changed'... would you!? doubt it!
Catherine Tonsberg: Not everything is black and white. Not all situations that are similar are indentical. Not all food should be salted. Not all people can be saved. Unless you are willing to assess every situation based on its own unique characteristics, you are entirely missing the purpose of having a mind. In this caes, I do support the APPLICATION of the death penalty. In most cases, I do not. Every tool has its purpose. The key is to choose the proper tool for the job. If you mean by "you support the death penalty or not" that it should be applied or not applied in every case, you aren't using your head. I suspect that this is not what you mean. I suspect that you agree with me on using the right tool for the right job at the right time. It's not like the death penalty is the doomsday bomb that will end all life on the planet. I hope that you have some perspective in your life. Peace.
To the coward who left no name on that silly abortions comment: A zygote is not a child. A child is a zygote that devekoped into an embryo that developed into a fetus that became a child when he or she was born. Not every seed becomes a plant. Not every plant flowers. Not every germ becomes a deadly disease. Not every pregnant woman should become a mother. No child should be neglected, abused, tortured, killed, or allowed to be shaped into a horror like this child killer. Had his mother opted for an abortion, this abomination would never have raped or murdered anyone else's children. You have a brain. Put down the Bible and use it.
I don't see death penalty as a tool, it's murder. Tools are useful and help us achieve a goal. Execution doesn't lower crime or save us money or keep us any safer. That hardly means I'm lacking perspective or not "using my head". It means I decided to not agree with taking another person's life. Murder is abhorrent and execution is for revenge. From an economic, moral, and public safety standpoint, it serves no purpose.
So again, be glad he's being executed. You will get your revenge. Then "in every other case" you can be against it.... because it's wrong, right?
