The animal shelter is called "Friends of Strays," but perhaps it should be named "Strays You Want to Have as Friends" instead. Particularly Mabeline, a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix known as an "absolute sweetheart." (And sometimes fearless attack dog.)
Just ask the 17-year-old girl who took Mabeline for a walk a few weeks ago. A volunteer for the shelter, she was walking the dog down a path behind the building when she was attacked from out of nowhere -- by a man who turned out to be a registered sex offender! Yikes!
The attacker, Michael Bacon, chased the girl and grabbed her hair, pinning her to the ground. Unable to move, she was completely helpless. Until ...
Mabeline the Wonder Dog to the rescue! The second she saw her friend in danger, the 38-pound dog pounced, scaring away Bacon and allowing the girl to escape.
Good dog!!!
The funniest part is, Mabeline was adopted soon after the attack, but her new owner didn't even know anything about the daring rescue at the time of the adoption.
I bet whoever took Mabeline home never has to worry about walking down a dark alley alone again!
Do you have a super-loyal dog? Would she save you from an attacker?

This is very fitting for a ridgback mix. They are extremely loyal and have been knows to defend their owners. What's crazy is that its usually a dog who never attacked anyone or showed any aggression they just know when their people are in danger and are otherwise super friendly dogs. Glad she found a home (If that had been my daughter she would have found a home and eternal gratitude with me!)
That's so sweet and amazing. If I were the girl I would have adopted Madeline right away. :)
My dog's friendly and loves me... she's a bit nervous and unsure when anyone around her is in distress, though. I don't know if she'd attack someone if they came after me, but she'd try to get help or make sure I was okay. At least, I hope so!

Whoops, I didn't mean to misspell her name!
That's awesome. That poor girl must've been scared out of her mind. Thank goodness for this sweet dog!
Dogs will protect anyone who loves them! I have two 7 month old beagle mix pups and they would do anything to protect everyone that they know regularly. My boyfriend and his friend (who the pups rarely see) were wrestling around and when they saw him coming after him they went bezerk. If they were not on the dog lead they would have gotten him!
Another time we were walking her home from picking the kids up from school and we had to cross the street. She would normally just cross the street with no problems. This day she sat down and refused to move. There was a car still 3 blocks away from us and as soon as the car passed she walked the kids across the street.
I don't doubt for one second that she would come to our rescue if needed. We love her!!!
My pit bull (who is a rescued dog, near dead when animal control found her) would absolutely do anything and everything in her power to protect me and my kids (even from our other pit bull if she doesn't like the way he's acting with the kids).
My dog Bella who was a starving scared stray when she showed up at my plant nursery, is now happy, healthy and would protect me with everything in her. She is a lover but very scary to people she doesn't trust and very protective of me !
