Yahoo! We have good news to report on Elizabeth Smart! The woman America remembers best as the 14-year-old girl kidnapped from her Utah bedroom in the middle of the night a decade ago has gotten married to boyfriend Matthew Gilmour.
And the wedding details are absolutely perfect. So what do we know about Smart and Gilmour's nuptials?
Not much! Which makes the mother in me who shudders every time she thinks about the horrors endured by teenage Elizabeth smile so wide it hurts.
Sure, it's nice to hear that Smart tied the knot in Laie Hawaii Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Hawaii's Oahu. Both Mormons who met when Smart was overseas on an LDS mission in France, they celebrated their future with a private reception and luau. It sounds so blissful, I'm almost jealous!
But what's almost as sweet is knowing all those details came from a family spokesperson, not the prying eyes of the paparazzi. Because after years of being haunted by the story of her kidnapping and sexual abuse by the now imprisoned felon Brian David Mitchell, I can't think of a better way for Elizabeth Smart to celebrate one of the biggest days of her life than in private, with friends and family ... and without the media.
Because of Mitchell and his equally depraved partner in crime, Wanda Barzee, Elizabeth Smart was already denied a "normal" childhood. They took away her right to live a private existence, free of the public's curiosity. But this weekend, in a church in Hawaii, she got to be just a girl in love with a boy.
I can't think of a more perfect wedding, can you? Here's wishing the couple many happy years together!

I'm glad she was able to lead a relatively normal life in spite of what happened to her. I hope she and her new hubby have many happy years together.
