Who doesn't like Ellen DeGeneres?! There are more than just a few reasons the comedian-actress-talk show host has become one of the hugest household names in America. Most Americans think she's awesome, relate to her, enjoy her shtick, etc. But I guess not everyone's aboard the Ellen train. A group that's affiliated with the right-wing American Family Association, calling themselves "One Million Moms," seems to be living in the early '90s, before the coast was clear for someone like DeGeneres to come out. It's as if they want to turn the clock back to that fearful "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" time. They claim their mission is to "convene like-minded mothers ... fed up with the filth many segments of our society, especially the entertainment media, are throwing at our children." Uh. Huh.
Well, currently, they're all bent out of shape, because Ellen was tapped to be J.C. Penney's latest spokesperson.
The group said:
Funny that J.C. Penney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families. More sales will be lost than gained unless they replace their spokesperson quickly. Unless J.C. Penney decides to be neutral in the culture war, then their brand transformation will be unsuccessful.
WOW ... I can't, I mean, just ... what?! Are these people living in a hateful time warp?
Thankfully, Penney's has their wits about them, and they basically said, "Thanks but no thanks for the advice, One Million Moms!" The company's CEO says they're standing by their decision to keep Ellen on board, because she "is someone we all trust. She's lovable, likeable, honest, and funny, but at her soul, we trust her." Awesome, because it's so true!
Penney's totally rocks for choosing her in the first place, and they deserve a major pat on the back for standing up for their decision against a group that really could only be described as discriminatory.
Shocker: Most Americans -- and I would venture to guess most Penney's customers -- agree with the department store's CEO and have absolutely no problem or care in the world about Ellen's sexual identity. In fact, GLAAD launched a "Stand Up for Ellen" campaign to counter One Million Moms' effort, and more than 10K signatures are on the online petition to thank Penney's for their decision. They deserve it!
How do you feel about Ellen as the new J.C. Penney's spokesperson?

Too bad they waited this long to finally stand up to One Million Moms.
Better late than never, eh?
One Million Moms seriously has nothing better to do than to pick on Ellen? With all the other BIG issues they could be focusing on: the increase in people killing their kids, molestation, bullying, some kids having little or no education, children going hungry, unexplained illnesses, etc... they pick this one to fight?!?! Wow!
One Million Moms gives all Christian moms a bad name. As one of those Christian Moms, it makes me not only angry, but sad that this is what they focus on and are teaching their children! Any type of discrimination or bullying should not be tolerated by any person, especially those who claim to be "Christians".
Oh goodness. I'd hoped we were way beyond this. I LOVE ELLEN. She's one of the kindest and most compassionate women in the world. Shame on you One Million Moms and THANK YOU JCPenney's. This gives me even more reason to shop there. I may go buy something right now :)
One Million Moms could take a cue from Ellen's most famous saying - "Be kind to one another."
I posted my support for Ellen and JC Penney's on JCPs Fb page. They responded directly to me, saying thanks for my support and they love having Ellen as their spokesperson.
One Million Moms won't win this one. Besides, they don't even have one million moms!
