If you watched a cable news channel today or glanced over a major Internet news site, you likely caught the story of Newt Gingrich openly crying while talking about his late mother during our CafeMom Coffee Break between Gingrich and 100 moms in Iowa this morning.
It was certainly a headline-making moment, and it touched the hearts of most if not all Iowa moms in the audience, not to mention Newt's family in the front frow, who cried right along with him.
But while Newt's tears made headlines on pretty much every major media outlet out there (and yes, we're pretty stoked that our event for you, the MOMS of America, got so much attention), his mom was hardly the only thing he talked about during the event.
Want to see the highlights for yourself? Read on -- then tell me what you think in the comments.
Pollster Frank Luntz and I, along with the CafeMom team, worked hard to make sure that Newt addressed all of the issues that matter most to you. Consequently, in the hour we spent talking with the presidential candidate, he covered everything from education to job creation to clean air and water regulations to what he wishes he'd done differently as a dad when his daughters were growing up. Whether you agree with him or not, it was a great opportunity to learn more about where he stands on issues near and dear to moms' hearts, and to gain insight into his life as a husband, father and grandfather.
Here are the video highlights we posted on the CafeMom Studios channel ...
Here, Newt introduces his wife, daughters, and grandchildren seated in the front row, and shares some of the things he wishes he had done differently when his daughters were growing up.
In this video, Newt tells moms exactly what he'd like them to know as voters in the upcoming election.
In this video, a mom asks Newt to convince them that he has truly changed and repented for his mistakes. His answer is revealing.
Here, a military mom asks Newt Gingrich how the military would be impacted in the event of a government shutdown.
And in this video, I interview Gingrich's daughters and find out how they feel about the media delving into their father's personal history.
Finally, the infamous crying video, which really was unusual for Newt -- Wolf Blitzer said today on CNN that in his decades of covering Gingrich, he's never seen him get this emotional.
Quite a first big event for our Moms Matter initiative, don't you think?
We look forward to hosting more Coffee Chats with the candidates in the weeks to come.
In the meantime, what do you think of Newt's answers to our moms' questions?

Tasmanian-Jedi - You're kidding right? Just because someone is also a mom means jack shit. FYI, not all moms want the "family values" (i.e. religious agenda) you wish to push onto everybody.
Thanks CafeMom. I'm an NPA (no political affiliation-as independent voters are called in Florida since we have a registered Independent party). I'm very interested in getting as much information as I can in order to make an informed decision. I'll be looking forward to future interviews. Where can I find out when they're scheduled?
Newt looks old, tired, and worn-out. Add to that, the fact he's falling in all the polls, tears come cheap and easy. Your headline says it all, Barbara Walters, you're not. It would have been more impressive if you called him out on the "lies" he claims the negative ads are saying about him, and actually forced him to tell the real truth instead of pacifying an audience by what he thinks they want to hear. Newt is an egotistical, money-hungry, power-grabbing, hypocritical, morally reprehensible little man. He, et alia, rely on the public to be uninformed of facts or too lackadaisical in their search for the truth. The fact is all sectors of the economy were impacted by the shut-down of the government, including the health and welfare services for military veterans. The realization of his stage of importance and consequent "snubbing" by then Pres. Clinton, and his inability to control his temper is perhaps the source of the shut-down. "Part of why you ended up with us sending down a tougher continuing resolution"-Gingrich 1995 Personal accountability, truth and integrity-attributes of which Mr. Gingrinch has none.
You can make Newt cry, but you can't find a way to make the sign stay up????
