Debate: Which Republican Candidate Deserves the Nomination?

ABC NewsWith Newt Gingrich's lead in the polls ebbing, Mitt Romney gaining a number of important endorsements, and Ron Paul surging in the Iowa polls, the race for the Republican presidential nomination is shaping up to be an interesting -- not to mention entertaining -- one.

And that leads to this week's debate question for our political bloggers:

Which Republican candidate do you think deserves to be the presidential nominee?

It's a complicated issue, and one the pundits have been debating for weeks.

Does America need a candidate like Newt Gingrich, brash, confrontational, and sure to give Obama a run for his money in a one-on-one debate?

How about Mitt Romney, the most moderate of the Republican candidates, and surely the one who'd do best in a general election with independents who are disgruntled with Obama?

Perhaps Ron Paul, the quirky libertarian congressman, could shake things up, appealing to voters with his resolutely anti-big-government stance.

Or maybe Michele Bachmann deserves a shot, despite the fact that her campaign is "running on fumes."

Could Rick Perry truly go "Tebow," win the nomination, and do well against Obama?

Rick Santorum calls himself the "strong conviction conservative," and he's clearly committed to his views, unlike some of his competitors. Does he deserve the Republican Party nomination?

Or does Jon Huntsman, who keeps hanging on in this race, despite dismal numbers in the polls?
