There are a few Christmas songs out there that never fail to make me verklempt, much as I hate to admit it. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." "O Holy Night." "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)." Now I have another tear-jerking tune to add to the list.
Written and performed by Master Sgt. Robert Allen of Marine Wing Support Squadron 371, the heartfelt serenade is a holiday love letter to his faraway wife (he's stationed in Afghanistan, she's back home in Pawnee, Oklahoma).
And I'm not the only one who's moved by the song. Allen's fellow Marines at Camp Leatherneck were so impressed, they filmed him singing and playing the modern-day military carol to serve as a video Christmas card for the thousands of spouses and families who'll be spending these holidays without loved ones.
I think my favorite part of the song is the verse where he acknowledges the challenges wives like his face every day:
"It's a tough, hard life, being a military wife, spreading cheer along the way, wearing a smile every day, while your husband's away."
Take a listen ... just have the tissues handy!
Do you have a loved one in the military you'll be missing during the holidays?

We will be missing our soldier this Christmas. He leaves very soon and will miss the holidays again. Thank you to all the men and women serving, also the familes that are left behind to carry on without them!!
Thank you for the lovely video , Marine families always hope, wish, love, and believe he/she will be coming home More than I can do my DH has left earth 11 years ago. God Bless
Merry Christmas Master Sgt. Allen. That was beautiful! I am a Marine mom and know too well the feelings of having my son deployed over the holidays. My daughter in law and grandkids also know the sadness of having daddy gone and missing so many things at home. I pray for all our military that they have a safe and blessed Christmas! Come home soon! We appreciate all our military has done and continues to do to keep us safe here at home in the United States! Semper Fi!
love this song my husband was deployed for over 2 years and lots of holidays this is a great song to show his love
I love it and my kids will too. Our sailor is in Bahrain this year and last year he was out on his Submarine. We do miss him especially at the holidays, but as you said we keep moving on. From the King-Muzy Family at home we thank you for your thoughts of us this year and years to come.
PS if you have a cd or something we'd love tog et it.
