Does Men's Wearhouse Stand with Occupy Wall Street?

occupy oakland general strike The Occupy Wall Street kids have gone national, camping out in cities all over the country, demanding an end to the bank bailouts. Oh, and they would also like bailouts for themselves, for purchases they regret making, like useless college degrees in female studies (fraternities have been studying that for decades, by the way) or loans for houses they couldn’t afford.

I know, I don’t get it either. You’d think they’d either be for personal responsibility and the freedom to fail and dust yourself off to try again, or against it.

Anyway.

The Occupy Oakland branch of this confused movement called for a general strike day on Wednesday, November 2. They encouraged all workers in the city to skip work for the day, consumers not to buy, and generally just protest employers and unemployment (again with the confusedness).

So basically no one went to work in Oakland on Wednesday. Well, except for the police department, who were required to come in, even if they had previously been scheduled to have the day off. It’s a good thing they did, since (of course) the protests ended up getting violent.

They’re like giant toddlers throwing tantrums, really. They can’t even figure out that rich people are the ones that create jobs. They just know that that fat cat over there has more money than them and it’s WAY NO FAIR! We all know how our toddlers act when they don’t get something they think should belong to them, even though it clearly doesn’t – they get mad and start breaking stuff.

If I can’t have it, no one can have it!

And destroy private property they did. Whole Foods, Wells Fargo and Chase banks, and other businesses were broken into, merchandise destroyed, employees held hostage, women raped … it was bad.

So imagine the outrage amongst sane people when a picture of a sign in a Men’s Wearhouse window made the rounds in the blogosphere on Wednesday. The sign said, “We stand with OWS…Closed.”

Wha…?

How can they stand with a group of people that have no idea what they want, but they’ll destroy other people and/or their things to get it? People that smash windows, pillage, destroy, rape? Where’s the logic?

Oh what’s that? The protestors left that particular store alone?

Nicely done, Men’s Wearhouse.

Oh, and Occupy kids? Grow up, figure out what you want, and then go get it without destroying other people’s property and livelihoods.

Thank you! I am all for ending bank bailouts; "too big to fail" is ridiculous. However, no one held a gun to these people's heads and forced them to sign loans they couldn't afford. If you can't afford to pay back student loans totalling tens of thousands of dollars, then go to community college for your gen eds, then to a state university for your degree. If you can't afford a $250,000 house, buy a cheaper house. It's pretty simple.

ah, American consumerism at it's best. These are the hippies of today, and they too will fade into a distant memory.

I in no way support violence, rape and property destruction, however this movement is not about getting personal bail outs. The occupy movement is about 1% controlling the majority of wealth in this country and still getting bailed out by the rest of us. I myself am not a protester but we are all in this together. I am assuming no one commenting on or writing this story is a multi-billionare. Don't let the media showing one episode of violence be your platform.

I wish I were out of touch enough that I believed even half of this. You know, I'm actually happy for those of you that don't seem to understand OWS, because it means the past four years have been kinder to you than they have been to many others.

God these people are ridiculous...what do they want? If they are protesting for poltiical change then by all means i'm behind them, I'm sick of how the government is so beaurocratic and bloated these days. But home loans and student loans and jobs and credit card debt and what exactly is it again??? Don't use credit if you can't afford to repay it. Period. Jobless? Yes that is aweful, but why are you protesting again? What is that going to do to get you a job?

How many episodes is sufficient, then? These protestors need to grow up! If they want to go to college, they need to study something that will allow them to support themselves, rather than "community organizing" or something equally useless. They have no clue what real life is about, they seem to think they can get a degree and jump right to the top of the ladder without working their way up! Entry-level is NOT what they are made for!! They should have kept a bit of those loans to get a couple clues.

Wow.. so would you consider law school as something that would be sufficient to support yourself? My husband is an attorney and cannot find a decent job. I don't agree with the violence, but America needs to wake up. The majority of it's citizens are brainwashed by the media and Rupert Murdock's empire. Most of the people struggling are very hard working people. For most people, working harder and making better decisions will not make any difference in a system that is designed to keep you at the
bottom. Corporate greed and dirty politics have to stop!

It's obvious the writer and most the commenters are victims of the mass media. What? Just a bunch of spoiled scruffy white kids, nope not really. We have seen teachers, war vets, mothers, grandmothers and bank tellers all protesting. And no its not about bail outs for us common folk, we just want some things to be fair. And honestly can the author sound anymore like a brat?

I've read this blogger's rants before. And mostly I just roll my eyes at the lack of depth and understanding. Basically she could've just sayed some characters and wrote, "Waaahhh." She should write about the Kardashians. The growing gap between the 1 percent and the rest of US is staggering. The super rich have seen their income and their power grow exponentially thanks to govt policies. A strong middle class and tax fairness are good for everyone. Tax rates for the top 1 percent are lower than they've been in a decade. So where are the jobs? There is no "trickle down." The so-called job creators are creating jobs -- in CHINA. Our middle class is shrinking. Too many Americans are out of work or underemployed. This isn't about clashes with police. That's like blaming the civil rights protesters when the cops turned the water hoses on them. OWS is a movement like others elsewhere that frequently arise when so many are left out of the process.
