Just yesterday, a 10-year-old boy named Jaden Torres was hit by a taxi cab in Morningside Heights, a neighborhood in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The kid had been playing with a friend and supposedly "darted across" an intersection. Witnesses say that the cabbie wasn't driving fast at all, but the impact was enough that he spun around and was pinned in the fetal position beneath another parked vehicle.
Wow. OMG. What a nightmare.
A group of local heroes (they definitely deserve the title!) were able to lift the car and free Torres from underneath. Wow -- major whew! there! Plus, a pediatrician who lives nearby attended to him, then told the The Daily News that Torres "had a pulse ... but he was completely unresponsive." That poor little boy! Thank goodness those good Samaritans were around to help!
Torres was taken to the hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. The cabbie was not expected to be charged, which seems questionable. Then again, it could have very well been the kid's fault. Not to mention his parents -- where were they?
All I can say is it's a miracle that it seems like Torres will be alright.
What do you think about this story? Should the cab driver be charged?
