The fourth annual Troopathon is taking place today June 23 in California -- as well as on a radio near you. Also, it will be streaming live on the net, if you’re into that sort of thing. Which I have to say, I usually am, since I can plug my headphones into my laptop and hear what’s going on despite the chaos that makes up my life as a work-at-home mom.
Troopathon (you didn’t ask but I’ll tell you anyway) is an awesome and amazing effort to get people to support our troops overseas. Our guys are there, defending our freedom abroad, and they do it without asking for anything. But, they do appreciate it when those of us back home send tokens of thanks and encouragement.
It all started when Gold Star Mother Debbie Lee lost her Navy SEAL son Marc in combat in Iraq. He died a hero, single-handedly holding off enemy fighters so that his team could rescue a wounded soldier. Since then, Debbie has founded the non-profit America’s Mighty Warriors and teamed up with Troopathon as a national spokesperson to raise awareness for the cause.
Troopathon is about supporting the troops. It’s about saying Thank You to our men and women in uniform, and letting them know that they are honored and cherished back home.
Some top names in news media get together annually in a “Jerry Lewis-style” fundraiser to raise money for care packages for our soldiers. What an amazing event! I don’t care what side of the political aisle you’re on, I believe that Americans love our troops and want to show them support.
This is your chance.
There is no better way to let our peeps in uniform know that we care about them than to actually care about them. This Troopathon is a simple and easy way to donate even five or ten dollars to our guys and girls to remind them of what they are there for. They are there for us.
Shouldn’t we say thank you?
Catch the eight-hour-long webcast from 4 p.m. to midnight Eastern Time, Thursday June 23.
