I have this fantasy about what I would do if someone were to ever break into my house while I was in it. I would grab my pup and my phone (and probably my laptop), quietly slink down the fire escape, and call the police as soon as I hit the ground. In reality, I know that what I would really do would be something akin to screaming, crying, and pulling the closest blanket up over my head. In other words, I am nothing like this freakishly brave woman who FILMED the man who robbed -- and sexually assaulted -- her in her own home on her phone.
A 28-year-old California woman was home alone Tuesday morning when she heard a loud crash. After she got up to investigate, she realized she was being burglarized. Instead of screaming like a banshee and telling the man to take whatever he wanted, she got out her phone, caught him on tape (in pretty clear quality), and told him to leave. Could this be the bravest woman alive?
There are two kinds of people: Those who deal well in quick-thinking, high-pressure situations, and those who don't. I wish I wasn't part of the latter, but I am. I think know that if I were ever in the unfortunate place of this Oakland woman, I would be too shell-shocked to do anything logical. And to be totally forthcoming, I would be afraid the intruder would kill me if he saw what I was doing.
Unfortunately, after the woman stopped filming, the robber came back into her home and raped her. Understandably, she doesn't want her name released, but she is very much behind the releasing of the video in hopes that it will help catch this dirt bag, and prevent it from happening to other women. She is amazing.
If anyone out there reading this happens to live in the Oakland area, the intruder is described as a black man in his early 40s, about 5 foot 9, 160 pounds with a stupid, bald head. He was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. Hopefully, this woman's courageousness will help lock him up for a long time. And even if it doesn't, she should know she did something most of us couldn't.

What would you do in a situation like this?
