Multiple wars, scary natural disasters, dismal job numbers, and lost homes are confronting our great nation as we speak. Yet, all of our attention is focused on Rep. Anthony Weiner and his online lady friends. Why? It's simple, really: Because sex scandals are much more interesting and digestible than things like, say, the terrifying national debt. And, because we love casting judgement from the safe confines of our glass houses.
But let's just be sure we know exactly what we're casting judgement about. After all, there are several women coming forward and so many rumors floating around about what Weiner did or did not do with respect to these online relationships. Here's a roundup of Weiner's sexting partners (at least the ones that have been revealed so far). Let the judging begin!
Weiner admitted to "inappropriate" online relationships with six women. Here's what we know about four of them:
Gennette Cordova is the woman (inadvertently) at the center of all the drama. The 21-year-old Seattle student was the recipient of the infamous crotch shot, which was sent from the Congressman's Twitter account. She hasn't confirmed she's one of the six women; in fact, she suggested that perhaps the photo was originally intended for ex-porn star Ginger Lee, and that Weiner simply mixed up the spelling of the Twitter handle.
And speaking of Ginger Lee ... she's a former porn star who, according to TMZ.com, exchanged "scores of sexual emails over a long period of time" with the Congressman. So far, this is the relationship that could be the most troublesome for Weiner: He reportedly coached her to deny that they had been communicating and then sent her the following email:
Do you need to talk to a professional PR type person to give u advice? I can have someone on my team call. [Yeah, my team is doing great. Ugh].
Because it's unclear whether Weiner was referring to having someone on his congressional staff help her -- which might violate House rules -- or wanted a private PR consultant to help her, House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi has ordered an ethics probe of Weiner.
His relationship with Lisa Weiss, a 40-year-old blackjack dealer from Las Vegas, is perhaps the most embarrassing of the bunch. Reports say the two exchanged 220 sexts (often during work hours) and had phone sex while he was on a government phone. The New York Post has an ever-so-classy run-down of some of their Facebook messages to each other.
And don't forget the 26-year-old single mom from Texas, Meagan Broussard. She's provided ABC News with dozens of photos, emails, Facebook messages, and cellphone call logs from her "sexually charged electronic relationship" with Weiner. Allegedly, she was the first to send the lewd crotch shot (which she received in an email) to conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart.
