Casey Anthony Trial Bombshells Blow Away Everything We Thought We Knew

Casey AnthonyThe trial of Casey Anthony for the murder of her daughter, Caylee Anthony, opened explosively today in Orlando as bombshell after bombshell was dropped. Both the prosecution and the defense put forth shocking 'revelations' that blow away everything we thought we knew about this case, which has drawn the attention of the world.

The biggest surprise today -- the defense said Caylee drowned in the family's swimming pool, that no one killed her. While an autopsy never was able to determine the cause of her death, you'd think a drowning would have been evident. But that's their story.

According to Casey's attorney, Jose Baez, it was a horrible accident and the family panicked in its wake. IF that's true (which is more than questionable at this point), can you imagine how differently things could have gone if only they'd admitted that when it happened? It wouldn't have brought Caylee back, but it would have at least let her rest in peace and saved a hell of a lot of money in legal fees and heartache along the way.

Instead they wove a tangled web of deceit so thick there's no escaping it now, no matter what the truth may be.

Another major bombshell dropped by the defense was the fact that Casey's father, George Anthony, allegedly began sexually abusing Casey when she was 8 years old. He denied the allegations today. Baez said Casey's brother Lee also sexually abused her, and he alluded to a theory that Lee may actually be Caylee's father.

This is not a murder case. This is not a manslaughter case. This is a tragic accident that happened to some very disturbed people.

Disturbed is an understatement, and then some. Still, while I don't doubt sexual abuse like this does serious damage to a person, it still doesn't provide an excuse for killing or covering up the death of an innocent child. Baez promised that more is to come of the connection between the two:

What does a sex abuse victim look like? These ugly secrets will come out slowly in this trial.

In another bizarre twist, Baez told jurors that the man who reportedly found Caylee's body while he was peeing in some bushes, Ron Kronk, didn't just stumble upon her. Instead Baez says he put her remains there in order to collect a reward. Baez had no answer as to how Kronk may have gotten Caylee's body in the first place, which just opens up so many more awful questions.

The prosecution had bombshells of their own. Prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick said Casey Anthony used duct tape to kill Caylee. "At the end of this case, you will have no trouble concluding that Caylee Anthony was murdered by her mother."

At this point, there are so many lies and so much deceit we may never know what really happened. The only thing that's certain is that Caylee Anthony is gone, and she shouldn't be.

What do you think of the bombshells dropped during the Casey Anthony trial today?
