Jenny EriksonWhen I was little, my mama always taught me that actions speak louder than words. Co-opting a phrase from the most widely owned and read book in the world, she told me that I would be able to discern a tree by the fruit it bore.
In other words, talk is cheap.
I’ve been reminded of this so often over the past couple of years while watching the Obama administration. Barack Obama claimed to be for better education, and then he ended the DC voucher program. He said he wouldn’t hire lobbyists, and then he hired lobbyists. He said he wanted make sure every American had health insurance, then he gave waivers to businesses so they wouldn’t have to provide health insurance for their employees. Anyone else notice a trend?
The latest round of hypocrisy has to do with energy. In 2008, then-Senator Obama vowed to implement a cap and trade law that would limit carbon emissions and ‘necessarily skyrocket’ energy costs. Unable to pass cap & tax through congress, President Obama has decided to do whatever he wants anyway by expanding EPA regulation. Since I’m remembering phrases from my childhood, ‘more than one way to skin a cat’ comes to mind.
For the first time, the Environmental Protection Agency will regulate greenhouse gases from power plants and other major polluters -- which will stifle growth, kill jobs, and raise the cost of electricity. But if you’re lucky, a polar bear will come hug you. Polar bear hugs are far superior to being able to turn on your heat in the middle of a snowpocalypse.
In typical Obama fashion, the rules don’t apply to him or his buddies. After some review, it was decided that:
The Obama administration will spare a stalled power plant project in California from the newest federal limits on greenhouse gases and conventional air pollution … According to a declaration by air chief Gina McCarthy, officials reviewed EPA policies and decided it was appropriate to "grandfather" projects such as the Avenal Power Center…
The power plant will be filled with General Electric turbines. General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt and President Obama are good buddies. It could be coincidence. But my mama always taught me that if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and swims like a duck … it’s probably a duck. Or in this case, a corrupt politician.

How many unions again has he exempted?
In 2012, we need to show this person the door.
Really.
Unions are stinko.
Members want to be treated as though they're special.
American taxpayers don't want to pay for it anymore.
It's sad to see thestir pushing a political view, one way or another. It's very clear Ms. Erikson (a wonderful writer) is a Republican with a severe distaste for President Obama. While that's understandable, seeing this type of political opinion (biased to boot) from her repeatedly on this website is the type of thing that drives away readership. Plainly put, people (women) who visit Thestir.com generally aren't here for politics, even less so when those politics are biased, agenda pushing and lacking much needed bipartisan spirit.
^^^^^^^^^^
Oh, for crying out loud, she's like the ONLY Republican on here. I'm less and less enamored of the stir as of late...the politics are getting more and more polarized and inflammatory...and LESS well researched. In short, it's becoming a dump.
If Jeanne, Rana, Lyndsey and Jenny check out, I'm outta here completely. The new girls are kind of pathetic.
Wow, Prin D'fiory, clearly you have just arrived at The Stir and haven't bothered to read around much. Or perhaps you have, and are applying the Democratic Rule of Only The Right Pushes Political Views.
I'm starting to believe that Obama's goal is to go down in history as the only human to wreak as much havoc to people's lives, liberty, and pursuit of happiness as natural disaster. Maybe we could offer him a Special Excemption for Sucking in exchange for him putting the hammer and nails away? He won't be happy until he's converted us completely to socialism - he's already laying the groundwork, making sure people remain jobless and dependent on the goverment.
I'm suggesting bipartisanship. I'm suggesting not slamming one side or the other. Politically, here's what I know. We had a Republican President for 8 years and we had problems. We now have a Democrat in office and we have problems. The more we force the voting public away from the middle the bigger problems we are going to have. TheStir has the ear of a lot of women and the collective power to help, nothing is stronger that a group of well educated, fully informed women driving to make the country better. .... But, why bother, when we can make catty anonymous comments and assumptions about each other instead?
The solution for the next election is to not vote right or left. How about we get a serious Libertarian candidate up for President.
