Remember Christine O'Donnell, one of Sarah Palin's Tea Party BFF's who ran for Joe Biden's former Senate seat in Delaware, and lost to Democrat Chris Coons? The same Christine O'Donnell who advocated against masturbation calling it a form of adultery? The same Christine O'Donnell who made the totally awesome television ad denying she was a witch? Well, it looks like Christine might be wishing she could cast a few magic spells right about now.
The former Senate candidate is reportedly under federal investigation by the FBI and two federal prosecutors for campaign fraud -- she allegedly used campaign finances to pay personal expenses and bills (like her rent).
Hard to believe such a God-fearing woman would break the law. It's just got to be a smear campaign. At least that's what she says.
O'Donnell, who set a state record by raising more than $7.3 million during her campaign, denies any wrongdoing. She claims using campaign money to pay her rent was all good since her house doubled as "campaign headquarters." (O'Donnell had received a notice of foreclosure on her house in 2008.)
Yet two former campaign workers -- so we're talking people who actually at one time supported her -- say that O'Donnell's spending wasn't on the up and up. According to the Huffington Post:
One former O'Donnell staffer, Kristin Murray, recorded an automated phone call for the Delaware Republican Party just before the primary, accusing O'Donnell of 'living on campaign donations -- using them for rent and personal expenses, while leaving her workers unpaid and piling up thousands in debt.' Another former aide, David Keegan, said he became concerned about O'Donnell's 2008 campaign finances as she fell behind on bills and had no apparent source of income besides political contributions. He submitted an affidavit to CREW alleging that she used campaign money to cover meals, gas, a bowling outing, and rent to a landlord, Brent Vasher.
The charges haven't been brought before a grand jury yet, but it looks like poor Christine is in some double double trouble. Uh-oh. Does that mean the rest of us are too?
Do you think Christine O'Donnell is being set up? Do you think she's a witch?
