Is an Erection an Entitlement? Teachers' Union Says Yes

18

jenny eriksonRemember back in the day when teaching was about the kids? Specifically, educating them? Those were good times, weren't they? These days, teaching is about the teachers' unions. And Viagra.

Yeah, you heard me.

The Milwaukee Teachers' Education Association let go of hundreds of teachers in June due to budget shortfalls, but is suing the school board for the lack of Viagra in the educators' health care plan.

They claim that it's a matter of gender discrimination.

Union lawyer Barbara Quindel said the case was worth fighting despite the district's grim finances. Quindel said erectile dysfunction is associated with heart disease, prostate cancer, and other conditions, and the drugs are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and recommended by the American Urological Association.

"MTEA believes that men should not be discriminated against in receiving treatment for their medical conditions," she said.

Seriously, people. There is something very wrong with the world that this is even a story. I do feel bad for the guy that can't get it up, but I fail to see how that's Mrs. Milwaukee Taxpayer's problem.

Where is the line? If sex is beneficial for our health, maybe the school district should hire Ashley Dupre as a "health consultant." If getting your jollies is a basic human right, then the district should be responsible for making sure ugly guys get laid. If they don't provide this service, it's obviously because they're prejudice against the unattractive.

Or perhaps it would be more cost-effective to buy alcoholic beverages for easy looking girls. They could put "equipment -- beer goggles" on the expense report.

Or maybe, just maybe, instead of trying to fight for the right to party all night long via little blue pills, The Milwaukee Teachers' Education Association could fight for the kids. Isn't it supposed to be about them? Instead of Viagra, how about smaller class sizes or more art and music lessons?

Once upon a time teaching was about the kids. Let's make it that way again.

Jenny I love your articles! I think they should amend the suit to include the pill that enhances the taste of semen.  Yucky semen is discriminatory for both sexes - LOL!

Agreed.

I agree 100% that education has taken a beating the last few years with one budget cut after the other, but to advocate for a beat-your-meating is absurd! How can walking around with an erection waiting to happen help our kids? This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen! I think sex is a very big issue in our society and the way it is exploited everywhere is one reason that sexual crimes are increasing more everyday, not to mention crimes against children. At some point our sex lives slow down to a trickle anyway- so why not accept that we can not hump like bunnies our whole life and find some other way to be fulfilled with our partners? Just when you think the world can't get any more twisted! (Wow!).Jenny, you pick the most entertaining topics. I always check your post first- keep up the good work!

Yeah, haven't you noticed that school is more and more about sex?

Once up on a time (not all that long ago), teachers were supposed to be single and celibate! And they still managed to teach the children!

If I were a teacher in that district, I would be so disappointed in the union and everyone supporting it. If I were a teacher, what I'd want my union to focus on would be how they could make me a more effective TEACHER, not copulator. I know that many teachers have the right attitude about their jobs and would agree with me. But, dare they confront the union?

That is such an outdated concept, to make the kids the focus of the teachers!!!   Budgets all over the country are in trouble, but instead of figuring out how to best serve the children with what they DO have, they are more worried about getting (and keeping) it up.  I guess we can read between the lines, here, and see what the MTEA is more concerned with, and it isn't the kids.  (Well, at least I hope that isn't the reason they want this particular medication in their health plan....)  This is a sad commentary on government schools, and teachers' unions.  It doesn't make either party look good, in ANY light.  No, don't worry about books, and other unnecessary stuff like that, just keep fighting for your right to have good sex whenever you want!  All I can say is, I am so thankful that I don't live in this area, and that I don't have to deal with these selfish and self-centered teachers!  I also hope that the teachers in my district don't get any "big" ideas!

It's sad that these teachers can't think beyond their needs.

If you're in charge of teaching my kids, are around my kids, or have anything to do with my kids, I don't want you getting a chubby

I give the teacher's union in question a C(ialis).

Discrimination, indeed. Obviously, what we're really suffering from is Electile Dysfunction.

OK. I'll stop with the bad puns now, but sheesh. These people need to get a grip! (sorry)

Here's a news flash for you: Insurance companies don't cover the cost of hearing aids for those of us who could not function without them. How about we consider that a higher priority than ED?
