The iPhone 4 isn't perfect. Steve Jobs probably hated to admit it, but at a surprise press conference today he acknowledged that the iPhone 4 had antenna reception problems and said he wanted to keep his customers happy.
Here's how he intends to do that.
Apple will give free bumper cases to everyone who bought or will buy the iPhone through September 30. An application form will go live on Apple's website next week, and iPhone 4 owners can choose a free bumper case from various vendors.
If you already bought a bumper case, Apple will refund the cost. (No word on how you prove the cost if you don't have a receipt for it.)
Owners who are still unsatisfied can return the phone for a full refund within 30 days.
Although he admitted that the antenna reception was an issue, Jobs stressed that reception issues are common among smartphones. Reception problems arise when the iPhone is held over its lower left-hand corner blocking the external antenna.
