Colton Harris-Moore, the 19-year-old, known as the "barefoot bandit" was arrested early this morning in the Bahamas.
The wily Washington teenager has been on the run for years after escaping from a juvenile detention facility where he was serving time for a series of burglaries. He was dubbed "the barefoot bandit" because he didn't wear shoes when he committed the burglaries. He wasn't wearing shoes when he was captured.
Since his escape he has made his way throughout several states stealing bots and airplanes along the way. It's believed he flew a stolen plane to the Bahamas.
Because of his lavish larcenies and elaborate elusiveness, he has earned a strong following on Facebook with tens of thousands of fans. 20th Century Fox has purchased the film rights to his story.
Harris-Moore's mother, Pam Kohler, is an interesting character in her own right. She has defended her son and even said she is "proud" of him.
"When the cops come and bother me that's when I think 'run Colton run, fly Colton fly.' I'm proud that he taught hisself how to fly," she told CBS News. "I just want to hug him," she said. "I'm proud that he can fly planes with no lessons. You're damn right I am."
She has recently signed a book deal and hired an entertainment lawyer.
"If anyone profits from this thing it should be me and Colt," she said
And one wonders how a boy could be so troubled ....
