Sarah? Is that you?If you're not a Facebook friend of Sarah Palin, then you may not have seen her most recent status update, "Enjoy the video and please support commonsense candidates who will work with you and for you to take back our country."
The attached video, which has been dubbed "a campaign ad for brand Sarah," is called "Mama Grizzlies," and includes audio from the speech Palin gave earlier this year to an anti-abortion group in which she first used the term "Mama Grizzly" as a metaphor for conservative Republican women. Palin now calls on all "Mama Grizzlies" and "Pink Elephants" to stampede Washington.
Check out the video:
Here, excerpts from the speech:
"All across this country, women are standing up and speaking out for common sense solutions. These policies coming out of D.C. right now, this fundamental transformation of America -- well a lot of women who are very concerned about their kids' futures saying we don't like this fundamental transformation and we're going to do something about it."
"It seems like it's kind of a mom awakening in the last year and a half ... Here in Alaska, I always think of the mama grizzly bears that rise up on their hind legs when someone is coming to attack their cubs, to do something adverse toward their cubs. You thought pit bulls were tough, well, you don't wanna mess with the mama grizzlies. Look out Washington, because there's a whole stampede of pink elephants crossing and the ETA for them stampeding through is November 2, 2010."
I'm all for common-sense solutions, but I haven't heard any from Sarah and the girls. Nor does there seem to be any substance to what she's saying. It's Sarah doing what Sarah does best. Talking. About nothing.
And don't conservatives usually object to politicians playing the gender card (or the race card)? Isn't Palin doing just that?

why is a woman who hates animals and kills them comparing herself to their majesty? if i were a real grizzly, i'd be out for blood.
Fortunately, there are plenty of mothers of other poltiical persuasions who are involved, as well. I just hate that Palin is trying to convince the world that mothers who are interested and involved in politics are conservatives.
Whoever thought of the idea of mothers as either grizzly mamas or pink elephants, the idea is incredibly stupid. Grizzlies are wild animals who attack indiscriminately at even a perceived threat to their cubs, and pink elephants have been associated with alcoholic hallucinations. I can't help wondering if she thinks most mothers think health care reform is a bad idea, either for them or for their children. As a mother and grandmother myself, one of my maternal instincts would be concern for the health of my offspring.
I don't know about being compared to a pink elephant, but mothers have been compared to mama bears for as long as I can remember! That is not a new thing that Sarah thought up all by herself..... And I am glad that she is getting women involved in politics, whether or not they agree with her. She has made a lot of women realize that being conservative is OK, that it is acceptable, and that the world won't come to a screeching halt if a conservative mother makes her opinion known! While I don't think the country is ready to accept her, I think she has done more for this country than we will realize for a long time.
