Let's face it: A group of people should neither vote for nor against a man because of his skin color. It was wrong when black people were discriminated against, and it's wrong now when they are elevated not on their character or abilities, but on that skin color that once held them down.
Barack Obama was not elected President of the United States in spite of his skin color, but precisely because of it. It's obvious in the number-one criticism by liberals of the tea party: Racists. Because they voted for Obama because of race, we obviously voted against him because of race.
Funny, I thought his race was American.
Republicans fell into the same trap of identity politics when they elected Michael Steele to be the Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). I'm told that Mr. Steele is a very nice man, and I have no reason not to believe it. I'm sure the President is a nice man as well. However, neither one seems to have a clue how to do his job.
It doesn't work to elevate a person to a position that's not right for them over other more qualified candidates based solely on that person's skin color. Just as President Obama needs to go in 2012, Michael Steele needs to go now.
Whether or not Mr. Steele resigns, there's been much speculation regarding who would replace him as the head of the RNC. One name I heard had me giggling, because it seemed like a joke. Sarah Palin.
Say what?
Many people who are against this proposal say that Sarah Palin should not become the head of the RNC because she won't be able to do the job. It's a ludicrous idea, and it's obvious they only want her because she's a woman.
I say Palin shouldn't become the RNC Chairman because she's too good for the RNC. Have you ever heard of the expression, "Pearls before swine"? The RNC is terrified of Sarah -- the marathon-running, state budget-cutting, baby-making, kingmaker from Wasilla.
Sarah Palin defies convention, rejects the establishment, posts on Facebook, and says things like, "Gee whiz" and "Gosh darn it." Yet she remains a powerhouse fundraiser, and an endorsement from her seems to be the gold stamp of approval with voters. The RNC doesn't like her because they can't control her, and in their minds, she's keeping their establishment candidates from being elected.
What better way to keep Palin "under control" than to tie her up in the red-taped bureaucracy of the RNC?
The RNC isn't once again playing identity politics with Sarah Palin as they did with Michael Steele. They're being much smarter this time. But I doubt Sarah Barracuda will take the bait.

I'm not sure how seriously the man's position is taken anyway. The only time I ever hear from him is when he is asked to comment on Rush Limbaugh or, as now, when he says something the dems can jump on. (Which, to be fair, has not happened very often to Steele compared to many folks in politics, including Obama and Biden.) I just don't see where his leadership is - though obviously I'm not in the "beltway" so maybe I'm just missing it.
I think to some extent, Palin is a leader of the Republicans, but they are afraid to admit it because the attack machine against her is so well-oiled.
Nobody can go four years without saying a fair number of things that can be picked apart by a rabid press. The press would be more eager to trash Palin because it seems (to them) indelicate to pick on a black guy. Plus, they see Palin as more of a real threat to the Democratic party. However, I am uncomfortable saying Palin shouldn't have a leadership position because she's an easy target. If she represents the maintream Republican viewpoint and has a thick enough skin, she should have the same opportunity as anyone else who meets those criteria. The "news" about Palin is sure to be more sensationalist, but negative is negative. It might actually be good to have the media talk more about the conservatives' views, which are actually attractive to many of their audience.
Jenny -- did you take a poll of these racist liberals to find out how many people supposedly voted for Obama because he's black? Because, frankly, most of the people I know voted for him because Sarah Palin thinks we walked with dinosaurs.
He could have been purple for all most voters cared -- he wasn't George Bush. Period.
Palin is getting some serious attention on her position on domestic oil extraction, especially her “Drill, baby, drill!” motto: http://wethepeoplevswetheprogressives.blogspot.com/2010/07/well-our-liberal-friends-replace.html . This will definitely tarnish her reputation, that is if other events, debates haven’t already. Let’s be honest, her response to the oil spill was shortsighted – yes, most of us would agree that there needs to be more oil extraction, but the way Palin has framed this whole thing has been remarkably insulting to the residents of the Gulf coast. She is clearly one of the most polarizing figures in politics these days and I’m not sure if she would be the right fit to run the GOP.
The republicans need to wake up. Steele isn't a bad guy and should not be vilified by the GOP bkz of a silly statement. Why would Sarah want anything to do with the GOP knowing what she knows now. A party who supports moderates, it's a good old boys club. Party bosses want who they want in, NOT who is best for WE THE PEOPLE. The republicans are almost as much to blame for the situation we find our country in today as the dems. Thank God people are starting to wake up and stand up. I only hope it hasn't gone too far that we can't get our country back. I hope and pray God will stand with the U.S. A. in it's battle with those who wish us harm from outside and inside it's borders. Remember Plato 350BC " The penalty good men pay for not being interesed in Politics is to be governed by men worse than themselves".
@ val -- don't you think that Palin would absolutely change all that? =)
I think that she, given a legitimate chance, could be a suberb leader of the party. However, I doubt they would give her the opportunity, and right now, the RNC does not need someone as controversial as Palin.
Michael Steele wasn't qualified to be Lt. Gov. of Maryland when he was in office, let alone heading up the RNC. But to suggest that Sarah Palin is qualified? Hardly. While she would obviously be a good fundraiser, as she has proven, the role of the RNC chair is the to be the "leader" of the party. Palin has already proven her lack of leadership ability by resigning her governor's position and her lack of understanding on most substantive issues.
lol- Thanks for the great comments! You guys make me laugh so much. Yes, Sarah Palin really believes that humans walked with dinosaurs. She can also see Russia from her house! Hahahahahahahahahaha! Tina Fey sure is funny, isn't she? (I really mean it, Ms. Fey is hysterical!)
