Remember that one time when there was a terrorist that helped blow up a plane over a little Scottish town called Lockerbie? Let me refresh your memory. In December of 1988, some really bad guys detonated a bomb on Pan Am flight 103, killing everyone on board and even some Lockerbians that got in the way of falling airplane parts. In all, 270 people died.
The Lockerbie plane bombing was the greatest terrorist assault on American civilians (179 of the deceased were Americans) until the towers came down on 9/11. There were babies and children on that plane. College students headed home for Christmas. Families. All doomed before they could even put their oxygen masks on.
Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was convicted of involvement with the bombing, and was sentenced to life in a Scottish prison. Last August, he was released to his home country of Libya after a doctor confirmed that al-Megrahi had terminal cancer and only months to live.
He was given a hero's welcome home in Libya. Throngs of people cheered for him as his plane landed and he stepped out a free man in his home country.
Silly Scots -- showing mercy and compassion to someone who is idolized for murdering innocent people. You know you're too far to the left when President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton think you should have left the guy to rot in jail. I mean, live comfortably in jail. Obama and Clinton are still liberals, after all. I'd hang him by his pinkie toes, but that's just me.
Now we find out that he's not actually as sick as originally thought, and will likely live another decade or more. Karol Sikora, the cancer "expert" that made the original assessment, was cited as saying, "It is embarrassing that he's gone on for so long."
It's embarrassing and tragic. Actions speak louder than words. Al-Megrahi has apologized to the victims' families for their loss, but the guy helped blow up a plane. I'm inclined not to take his words at face value. It was ridiculous when he was released for the last three months of his life, and it's ludicrous now that it's turning into a decade or longer.
A lot of terrorist attacks can be planned in a decade. Maybe a better idea than releasing a terrorist on "compassionate grounds" would be to keep them imprisoned. I know it's a novel concept, but it's one I hope the United States has learned from Scotland.

Either that expert knows as much as I do about cancer, or they have made enormous strides in cancer treatment in Libya in recent months!!! Guess which option I think is closer to the truth!
I'm thinking the former? Or maybe a third option- they just don't care. Or a fourth option? They lied.
Yeah, Jenny, I considered those options as well. I just finally decided that I thought the Scottish were a little less corrupt than the American government. Maybe I'm wrong. What would be the point to lying about it? The guy had life in prison. Why would they bother to make the world mad at them for nothing? So, I went with the lesser of two evils, they are just not as smart as they think they are.
Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was convicted of involvement with the bombing
I can go one further with an adverb- wrongly.
He was given a hero's welcome home in Libya.
For being an innocent political prisoner
someone who is idolized for murdering innocent people.
I submit that the bolded word is most likely incorrect, unless you're more familiar with Libyan sentiments than I am. Most of them do not cheer mass murder, even against inncoent Americans.
That said, I do suspect Karol Sikora's 2009 prognosis. I also doubt his flippant statement it COULD be 10 or 20 years. The cancer is real and advanced, I can't imagine more than one year more. It's not a surprise he's lived this long - 3 months was never THE prognosis, just one end of a range. I suspect Megrahi was let out early as a trade for dropping his second appeal, which could have been very embarrassing if it had gone ahead. See SCCRC press release, 28 June 2007.

Well, perhaps a little more. I see this is a "Mom" community, and I have to confess I'm not one. But Moms know and care about justice.
There are dozens of good reason to suspect Megrahi was wrongly convicted, and he and Fhimah and Libya wrongly blamed. It looks like the case was built up on based on bought/mangled testimony, planted physical evidence, and political will to conceal the epically embarrassing truth. The real killers were never yet caught, but they were almost certainly avenging the U.S. shoot-down of Iran Air 655 on July 3 1988. One of the likely ringleaders reportedly lives now under US protection in Virginia.
It's a little lonely out here questioning a story 99% of the American public believes. But America isn't the world either and a lot of people besides me can see what's going on here. Googling "Lockerbie Quotes Dump" will show a surprising list of statement - Robert Baer, Michael Mansfield, David Frum, Ariel Sharon, Garrison Keillor, Hans Koechler, Robert Black, Jim Swire, Margaret Thatcher (sort of)...
My site (signature link) is one of the better resources to learn more (sorry, it just is). It has a lot of details, and is, well, a bit detailed for most. The side-link "Lockerbie 101" and "guided tour of the case against Megrahi" are digestible.
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to challenge their own beliefs, here and elsewhere. More power to you all.
I will never watch mel gibson in the movie. Won't buy bp products. and send the british prime minister a backbone. And just think how the tourist trade will be just because of a bribe to a scottish retard. But we here in the United States can't really do anything when our President is to busy eating out and partying. We just lost our gulf coast because of BS excuse me BP and now they bribe the Scottish joker. Wonder who the bomber will hit next.
