Photo by Kristen BonIt is quite the primary season for Republican women. Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman have won the Republican primaries in California, for Senator and Governor, respectively. Sharron Angle is poised to face Harry Reid in the Nevada Senate race come November, and Nikki Haley won her gubernatorial primary in South Carolina.

There are other conservative chicks* running for reelection (Michele Bachmann and Marsha Blackburn come to mind), and some like Robin Smith and Pamela Gorman have not yet faced their primaries.

But for the purposes of this post, I want to focus on Pamela Gorman.

I had an opportunity to chat with the GOP babe** recently about her campaign to represent the 3rd district of Arizona in the United States House of Representatives. Solid conservative John Shadegg currently holds that seat, but the Congressman is retiring to spend more time with his family and to do whatever else it is that you do when you retire.

Pamela has served in both the Arizona State House and Senate over the past six years, but somehow manages to retain a remarkably cheery disposition. Throughout our conversation, she poked fun at herself, purposefully made a bad pun about being thrown over the barrel in regards to oil, and laughed like she meant it at my own lame attempts at humor.

Aside from being an extremely enjoyable person to chat with, Pamela has the brain and the heart to bring real change to Washington. She understands that raising taxes doesn't bring in more revenue for the government. When taxes are raised, people are more tempted to cheat on them, businesses can't afford to keep as many people employed, and consumers buy less of the products and services that provide other people with their livings.

Upon being asked what her greatest accomplishment thus far in politics has been, Pamela responded, "I never, ever, bent on my principles when I cast my vote." And you can believe that those principles have been tested under fire.

Last year, Ms. Gorman refused to vote in favor of a proposed tax increase for the residents of Arizona. After all, Republicans are supposed to believe in limited government. Most of the members of her own party stood firm with her at the outset, but like chocolate soldiers, their resolves melted until they were a gooey mess of chocolate voting in favor of tax increases.

Pamela Gorman was unwavering in her principles of limited government, and the rights of the people, specifically the right to keep most of their very own money. Because of this, she was kicked off the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Senate Rules Committee. This is a woman whose vote cannot be bought.

That is exactly the kind of person we need in Washington, DC.
