President Obama hates the military. How do we know this? Because people like Erick Erickson, Glenn Beck, and the hosts and guests of Fox & Friends say so. And then, of course, there are his Memorial Day plans.
The President will be attending a ceremony at a military cemetery at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Illinois instead of going to the annual ceremony at Arlington Cemetery (Vice President Joe Biden will be laying the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in his stead).
Seriously, what is wrong with this guy? Doesn't he know the President has to lay the annual wreath, otherwise he's un-American and anti-military?
That, of course, applies only when the President is a Democrat. If a Republican prez misses the ceremony? Yawn. No biggie.
A sampling of Republican Presidents' attendance at Arlington's Memorial Day ceremony:
- 1983: President Reagan attended a summit meeting on Memorial Day while Deputy Secretary of Defense W. Paul Thayer laid a wreath at Arlington Cemetery.
- 1992: George H.W. Bush attended a ceremony in Kennebunkport, Maine (where he also reportedly played a round of golf), while VP Dan Quayle laid the wreath at Arlington.
- 2002: President George W. Bush commemorated Memorial Day at Normandy.
Hmm. Sounds like Obama is following "tradition" after all.
This whole Memorial Day spat is silly. The President will be honoring our soldiers, as should we all. It's not a day about politics, it's a day of remembrance. I hope Glenn Beck remembers that as he's scarfing down a wiener at a cookout somewhere.
