Flickr photo by david shankboneGlenn Beck and Anthony Weiner are not playing nice together lately. Not that they would. They come from different sides of the ideological table.
Beck, the conservative radio and TV host, and Weiner, a Democratic Congressman from New York, have been going head to head lately over gold. Weiner claims Beck is doing something wrong. Beck says, No I'm not.
And the latest incarnation of this catfight is the launch of Weiner Facts.com, a website that Beck launched on Wednesday to make fun of Weiner and what Beck says is a baseless attack. The website got so many clicks the day it launched that it had to shut down and reboot.
Why do I feel like I'm on the playground right now?
It all started when Weiner, a former roommate of Comedy Central's Jon Stewart BTW, launched an investigation into Beck's sponsorship of the gold retailer Gold Line. Gold Line buys and sells gold coins and collectibles, and Beck is a client. Gold Line is the main sponsor of Beck's radio show.
But Weiner claims the company -- with Beck as a tool -- is using unethical, misleading, and possibly illegal tactics to scare people into buying gold, such as talking up the supposed imminent collapse of the world's economy with Obama the main blame. In addition, Weiner says Gold Line is overcharging for the precious metal and is thus ripping people off big time.
Oh, we could dissect this to death, look a the facts, and give our opinions of who's right or wrong, but ... nah. What we likely have here is another U.S. Congressman who's spending too much time out to get a media personality for disagreeing with his views and choice for President when he should be focused on more important matters, and a talk show host who gets way more attention than he deserves who's acting like a 7-year-old.
At least you'd think Weiner Facts would be funny (my 7-year-old just cracks me up!). I don't know, I hate to be all uppity and serious and all that, but I just can't find the humor in it, and I really tried. Obviously millions do think it's funny, and are hooked. Not all the commentary is about Weiner; some is about weiners. As in hot dogs. That's part of the joke. Example:
"No, not this Weiner ...
WORCESTER, Mass. — A Massachusetts man who stole a hot dog from another man sitting under a tree in a park has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Antonio Judd pleaded guilty Monday in Worcester Central District Court to charges including larceny from a person.
Police say Judd grabbed the hot dog in August after flashing what appeared to be a gun in Elm Park in Worcester, New England’s second-largest city ..."
Don't go by me, read Weiner Facts to judge for yourself.

Beck is so much fun.... besides being right!
Gee-When you ask if this is a waste of time...I have to compliment Glenn Beck for being so creative, since the idiot Weiner was wasting tax payer time and money in bringing about this whole issue! Why do you think the public is so angry at Washington and the Media, because they aren't listening to us! At least Glenn Beck is listening...17 of 24 top books on Amazon are books that Beck recommended, do you think people are listening to Beck? Glenn-I love ya,"don't get mad, just get even!" I think you are doing a GREAT job, keep it up.
i got a chuckle off a couple of things, but it's not a website I'd go back to.
I do have to say one thing, Beck is an entertainer. He's paid to entertain. Is it a waste of his time? No, he's entertaining somebody. The people this congressman is supposed to be representing should be pissed.
I have to disagree, lovin. Beck is not an entertainer, although he can be entertaining at times. He is frighteningly correct about what is happening in this country, He is more of a historian, one who KNOWS the history of this country, and feels compelled to share it with the rest of us so that we do not make the same mistakes over and over. I feel that some watch him, and mistake his passionate love of his God & country for clowning around to get ratings. While he is fun to watch, with his expressions, and jumping around the set, he is dead on right on what he claims and he can back up everything that he says. I know that I have checked much of what he says, simply because it is so unbelievable, but it ends up being true. Every. single. time. However, I will continue to check things, I don't just take his word for things.
As for Mr. Weiner, well, his name says it all, imo. He is a progressive who feels that a business who makes a dollar off of a consumer is evil. I must say that I am glad that he is not my rep, if he is more concerned about a gold retailer, and a radio and TV show, than doing what he needs to do for the people in his district.
I think that Glenn Beck could make his point without the website, but, he is certainly free to create whatever website he desires.
yonnie, Stern is/was the most frequent visitor who was not connected to a job in the administration. John Holdren DID propose that, but not recently. There WAS a survey in which 45% of docs said they would quit. I think they will before 2014. Insurance for dogs? Can you say satire, or sarcasm? I stand by what I said before.
I don't blame Glenn and his crew for going after "the Weiner"; I admire Mr. Beck for doing all of the research that most of us lack the drive (and/or time) to do. He sure doesn't need some "political climber" to attempt to halt or distract him. Besides, the fun they are having over this whole thing, is probably a healthy release.
Keep up the good work, Mr Beck and staff, and thank you for everything you have done for this United States of America!!!
lol, I spoke badly, I'm a big Beck Fan. My point was, it's more his job to do this kind of thing, promote publicity for his show, etc, being kind of known for being, well, eccentric (and entertaining) in his show. Not that he wasn't correct in his views, just that, well, it's not the Congressman's place to be messing with this stuff. He should be focusing on not spending the US into oblivion and representing his people,
This congressman must have a case of Weiner-envy by now. I think Nancy Pelosi should launch a full investigation and personally interrogate the Weiner in order to extract any useful Weiner material which can then be used to convince Eric Holder that Mr.Beck is committing a federal hate crime by targeting a Weiner == Then, Janet Nepolitano can come out and say, "although I am not intimately familiar with Weiner, I can say that I am familiar with a Weiner's overall content and characteristics and I reject both..."
