Flickr photo by clif1066TMForty years ago today, on May 4, 1970, students at Kent State University gathered to protest the escalation of the Vietnam War into Cambodia. During the rally there was a standoff between the demonstrators and the Ohio National Guard.
Guardsmen shot into the crowd and four students were killed.
These were their names: Jeffrey Glenn Miller, Allison Krause, William Knox Schroeder, and Sanda Lee Scheuer.
The university will mark the occasion with a walking tour, a candlelight march and vigil, and a speech by Representative John Lewis of Georgia, a former civil rights activist.
