Cover Your Toplessness with a Denim Vest!

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on May 19, 2012 at 8:54 PM

Denim VestForgive my absence around here- I've been a little busy lately, shooting season two of I'll Take That Dare (which I can't WAIT for you to see).

I finally read over the many comments left on the last post I wrote, about the topless woman I saw out shopping when I was on location in New York last week. Some of you expressed disbelief that I actually saw such a thing, which made me laugh because the very next day, I saw ANOTHER topless woman wearing a backpack AND A PENCILED-IN MOUSTACHE. This happened, y'all. A year from now, topless woman will be everywhere and you'll laugh wryly about the time you doubted the fact that I saw what I saw.

However, this post isn't about toplessness. This post is about something else I saw everywhere in New York. Something even more exciting than bare breasts. And that something is ...

DENIM VESTS!

Posted by John Biggs
on May 16, 2012 at 5:42 PM

Clipping coupons is, arguably, quite boring. So why not spice it up with a few cool iPhone apps that help you save money in stores as you jet around town?

Coupon apps come in two varieties -- location-based, which pick up deals depending on where you are, and deal-based, which appear daily and include well-known chains and stores in your area. All of them can save you a few bucks, and most are free.

Ann Taylor Re-Names Dress After My Post on 'The Stir'!

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on May 7, 2012 at 1:00 PM

Ann TaylorBack in November when Newt Gingrich was briefly number one in voter polls, I moderated a CafeMom event with him and a room full of moms. A quick recap: Newt cried, every major media outlet caught it on video, and it made headlines around the world.

The question everyone had for me afterward was this: "Where did you GET that dress?"

I wrote about the dress here on The Stir. It was called the 3/4 Sleeve Side Tie Dress, and it was from Ann Taylor. But, as I wrote, "I have actually dubbed this dress The Miracle Dress."

And, as you'll see after the jump, it looks like Ann Taylor has done the same.

Carrie Underwood Loves Spring's Boxy Sweaters -- Do You?

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Apr 30, 2012 at 1:55 PM

Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood is one of the few celebrities who looks gorgeous no matter what she wears -- even if it's one of those boxy, mid-length sweaters most of us were happy to leave behind in the '80s.

Carrie likes the look so much, she's been wearing it quite a bit lately, along with Selena Gomez and other young starlets.

The question I have is:

Will you?

I'll admit, this is a trend I'm inclined to avoid. The last thing I need is a bulky sweater that cuts off at the waist.

However, I did find a few options for those of you who like the trend. Check them out, after the jump ...

Forever 21 Creates New Summer-Perfect Line for a Great Cause

Posted by Michele Zipp

beaded necklaceForever 21 is selling a new line for a great cause and not only is it inexpensive, but it's adorable. F21 joined forces with The Samburu Project, which is a non-profit that works to end the water crisis. A crisis we in America don't have to deal with but 4,500 children in the world reportedly die each day due to the lack of clean, safe drinking water. The issue is huge in Samburu, Kenya, and Forever 21 is donating 10 percent of sales from this special line called Give to Love. Love to Give so they can drill wells to bring clean water to those in need.

The line is really cute -- I want this Beaded Braid Necklace ($7.80) -- it would really brighten up any black top, and I have many of them. And there's more ....

The Lace Dress: Get the Look for Less

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Apr 21, 2012 at 9:00 PM

Emily BluntSeeing the lovely Emily Blunt in this bold red dress this past week just reminded me of the fact that the lace dress has really become a wardrobe staple.

Year after year, it shows up on the racks in virtualy the same format -- and it's a fantastic way to look a little bit (or a lot, depending on the cut) sexy, without showing too much skin.

The good news? There's a pretty lace dress out there for every shape, size and budget.

Click through to see some of my favorites -- including the one I'm getting myself this spring ...

It’s Easier to Find a Millionaire Husband Than a Good Pair of Jeans (OK, Almost)

Posted by Janelle Harris

Jeans
The enemy. Grrr.
You spot them across a crowded sales floor, maybe a congested thrift store rack. Denim works of art. The perfect pair of jeans, if such a thing even exists. Beautiful cut, lovely wash—even the little rivets have panache. You swoop down on them, terrified another stylish shopper will make eye contact with them first, and scuttle them back to the fitting room, ready to make love to your mirrored image from the waist down.

Except they won’t come up past the middle of your thighs. Or they do this weird creasey thing across your hips. Or they pucker out so far at the waist, you look like you’re a little tea pot, short and stout. There is your handle and there is your spout.

Dianna Agron Gives Us Spring Bag Lust -- 8 Copy-Cat Ideas (PHOTOS)

Posted by Emily Abbate
on Apr 10, 2012 at 11:27 AM

Dianna Agron from GleeSpring is totally the best season for fashion, wouldn't you agree? Come mid-April, you're at a breaking point where you're beyond sick and tired of cardigans, sweaters, and dressing like a schlub -- and suddenly there are bright clothes and accessories galore everywhere you look. It's like an early Christmas! You know whose spring look I love? Dianna Agron. The Glee star was out and about yesterday in NYC looking fab (doesn't she always?) in her cozy seasonal essentials.

Sure, the stripes are cute and the gray sweatshirt/blazer item, that's cool too. But you know what I'm gaga over? The bag! Heck, spring bags are what make life worth living, wouldn't you agree?!

OK, so that's a little drastic. OK, a lot drastic. But Dianna's planted the spring accessory shopping bug in me and I just can't let it go. Check out these 8 great bags perfect for spring:

Sephora's Tech-Savvy Makeover Is Great News for Beauty Geeks (VIDEO)

Posted by Maressa Brown
on Apr 9, 2012 at 4:36 PM

makeup shelf at sephoraFor any woman who has ever felt like a swipe of lipstick instantly brightens up her day or the perfect mascara makes her not only look but feel more awake, Sephora is the mothership of all beauty stores. It may sound silly, but whenever I go into that store or surf over to their website, I get the same butterflies a little kid might when entering Dylan's Candy Bar or a tech geek might upon arriving at Best Buy or the Apple Store. And now ... the shopping experience just got even more exciting. (I know, as if that were possible!)

The company, in an attempt to do a "social and mobile makeover" on itself, debuted a new website today that integrates Instagram and Pinterest. They also released a brand new and improved iOS app, and they'll be bringing iPads and iPod touch point-of-sale devices into at least 100 stores this year. Well, it's about time!

A Woman Who Is Able to Shop Alone Is the Most Satisfied

Posted by Michele Zipp
on Mar 22, 2012 at 10:39 AM

shoppingI used to love to go shopping. I would go after work, spend as much time as I wanted, and satisfy my shopping fix. Then I got married. We started saving money for the future and I had a husband who loved to cook and I loved to get home after work in order to eat his delicious cooking. I still shopped, just not as much. Then I had kids. My shopping excursions became scarce and I became the best damn online shopper I could be. Because if you ever tried shopping with twins (or even just one kid), you know what I mean. It's impossible. And you end up buying something you return because you weren't in your right mind when you purchased it in the middle of that delicate balancing act of keeping the kids happy and finding the perfect outfit while the countdown is on to tears and shrieks to return to the food court for more ice cream.

It's also tragically impossible to shop with someone who is waiting for you to stop shopping.
