Couple Spends Thousands of Dollars Renovating the Wrong House

barnBuying a fixer upper and putting a ton of time and money into the property to make it livable again can be quite an undertaking, but some people can't resist the appeal of putting their own stamp on a house. And this is why Terry Jordan fell in love with and bought a house in Senatobia, Mississippi on a nice piece of land that even came complete with a barn. She paid $11,500 for the foreclosed property, and planned on sprucing it up and then selling it for a profit.

Terry and her husband got to work right away and gave the home electricity, plumbing, and a new roof -- to the tune of thousands of dollars. So you can only imagine their shock and disappointment when they found out they had actually been sold the wrong house!

Wyoming Town for Sale Will Make Our Dreams Come True

buford wyomingSo I couldn't help noticing today: There's an entire town for sale for $100,000. A whole freakin' town in Wyoming! And while I don't exactly have $100K sitting here in my back pocket, I can't believe how cheap that is. Do you know what $100K will buy you in my neighborhood? A bathroom. Maybe a parking space.

Can I please buy this town?

I have so many ideas! I mean, sure it's way out in Wyoming and there's only three houses, a gas station/convenience store, and a post office, plus one inhabitant. But I see soooo much potential here. I almost want to set up a whole new Pinterest account just to help me decorate my new town I'm about to buy.

You Won’t Believe Who Bought New York’s Most Expensive Apartment

Ekaterina Rybolovleva is the daughter of a Russian billionaire, and to say that she is living in the lap of luxury is the understatement of the century. Because she is about to move into an $88 million apartment in New York City that her Daddy bought for her. Yes, you heard me right. The purchase price on the super-posh digs was $88 million, the most expensive apartment in town. Not too shabby for a single gal in the city, right?

Let me be more specific. Not too shabby for a single 22-year-old gal in the city, right?

Are Home Owners Sexier Than Renters?

Posted by Mary Fischer
on Feb 14, 2012 at 9:57 PM

Does owning a home make you more attractive and date-worthy than renting? Believe it or not, a new survey conducted by a real estate company suggests that men and women are more attracted to members of the opposite sex who pay their mortgage each month. Huh. I wonder why that is?

My guess is that the reasoning behind it differs a bit for men and women. Considering that more than a third of the women who took the survey said they would much rather be with a home owner than with a renter, odds are good the gals see home ownership as a signal that a guy isn't afraid to commit. In contrast, only 18 percent of men said they prefer a woman with her own digs as opposed to someone who is still writing rent checks each month. I guess men are preoccupied with things other than relationship longevity when they first start seeing somebody.

Donating Your House to Charity Isn't as Bad as It Sounds

house for saleI love hand-me-downs. I shop at consignment stores, and when I’m done with my found treasures, I donate them to local charities. But it would never occur to me to do this with my home.

Yet, for some homeowners, especially ones in foreclosure, donating a house to charity may be the only way out of an awful situation -- and it seems like it could even be a path back to financial well-being. It's becoming quite popular, in fact, because it not only allows the homeowner who can't sell her/his house a way out, but also the donated homes -- many of which are renovated and resold -- add new value to the neighborhood. Here’s how it works:

These Truly Ugly Houses Make Yours Look Good (PHOTOS)

Ugly House Deer Head

There are days when I look around my apartment -- cluttered, disorganized, and half-decorated -- and think, "There's no other home as crappy as mine." Then I log on to Ugly House Photos, a Phoenix-based website that displays real-estate sale photos that should never have been uploaded ... and I feel a tiny bit better.

Before you judge me, you’ve got to see the hilariawful images (and snarktastic quips) of one Mr. Leif Swanson. He’s a realtor himself and couldn’t believe the dumb mistakes homeowners made when trying to sell their homes. "The first impression is ruined by a bad photo," he says. In other words, if your dog is pooping on your front lawn ... wait 30 seconds before snapping your picture. Trust me.

Ogle some of Swanson's best (er, worst) and see if you don’t find yourself snickering as much as I did.

Kate Middleton's New Home Is No Palace Compared to Hollywood Mansions

kate middleton prince williamThe royal fairy tale continues for Kate and Will now that they've decided where their permanent home will be. In late 2013 they're moving into the well-appointed Apartment 1-A at Kensington Palace, formerly the home of the late Princess Margaret.

The royal couple need a larger home in order to carry on their royal entertaining duties, and the 4-story, 20-room apartment with its own private garden should fit the bill nicely, especially once the renovation is complete. Naturally a royal nursery is part of the plan. La-ti-da, commoners!

Of course, here in America, that's considered just a shack compared with our own celebrity digs. Heck, we rent bigger mansions just for our reality television stars, like the 9-bedroom mansion rented for American Idol finalists last spring.

This Little Baby May Be the Best Real Estate Bait Ever

LamborghiniA homeowner in Minnesota is trying a neato gimmick to get people interested in buying his four-bedroom, three-bathroom, ranch-style house. It comes with a sunporch, cedar deck, shady backyard … and a Lamborghini.

I’m trying to do the math on this. The home is priced at almost $400K. The Lamborghini was probably about $250K new, and sells for about $150K used. So potentially, you’re getting another house-worth of merchandise on top of the house itself.

Apparently, this kind of trick is a growing trend in real estate. Along with cars, desperate sellers have been known to try to throw in time-shares, fancy TVs, and even a year’s worth of fresh-baked cookies.

Hmmm. Now we’re onto something. Because frankly, I don’t want a weird, ugly sports car that only auto-dorks care about. Attention, home-sellers. If you want to draw me in, here are some items you might want to throw in with your house:

Nobody Wants to Live in Tom Brady’s Old House

Tom Brady's homeOh my word! The condo shared by Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and his bride, Gisele Bundchen, is still on the market, and the price has dropped by half a million dollars: It’s only $10.5 million now!

It’s a fine-looking home: three bedrooms and three-plus baths in a penthouse overlooking the Charles River. Two fireplaces in the living room alone (apparently there are six working fireplaces total). A roof-deck. A marble bathroom. A four-car garage and a doorman. Oh, and an elevator that you don’t even have to share. What’s not to like?

Ruh roh ... the photos on the realtor site are only of the exterior and the view. That means there must be something very, very wrong with the property. Here are 10 things that might be keeping the Penthouse of Douche from being sold.
