I think soothing is what most people go for when it comes to creating a nursery, and soothing is exactly what designer Lindsay Brier managed to achieve with this space for her son, Hawken. Its neutral base with bright pops of orange could definitely work for either gender. But she also used stripes!

See more about how she decorated her baby's room, below.

No, I'm not planning to decorate a nursery again, but I have several friends with growing bumps who are in the midst of deciding on all the sweet details of rooms just for baby.

I love putting together a nursery because you can have fun with it and be a bit brave in your choices. Here I've rounded up six gorgeous nurseries that all have something in common: eye-popping patterns on the walls. I love them and hope you do too.

Okay, for those of you who didn't feel the last nursery I featured was girly enough, I hope this one pleases your desire for pink. Yvonne decorated this nursery for her little baby girl with a splash of bright green on the walls and pink accents throughout.

I love that it all looks so doable -- in case you wanted to replicate some elements for yourself. See what I mean with more photos below.

This serene nursery created by Christine proves two things: First, just because your decorating for a girl doesn't mean you have to douse everything in pink, and, second, a DIY project doesn't have to be difficult to be effective. Take a closer look at the details to see what I mean.

There's an art to decorating with vintage pieces, and Vicki Eastland is an expert in the field. Not only does she know a good find when she spots one (ahem, that phone booth door), she knows how to mix vintage and modern finds to create a look that is far from contrived. While the red door stands out, there is an abundance of other details that you'll love in each corner of the room. Take a look.

Dad- and mom-to-be Jay-Z and BeyonceYou think I exaggerate when I say Beyonce and Jay-Z's baby-nursery-to-be could house a few families of four; sadly, I do not. Indeed, the superstar couple is understandably excited for the arrival of their first child and, therefore, have mega-nursery plans in the works for Baby Beyon-Z, who is due in February. We all know these famous first-time parents rake in oodles of dough. However, you are not going to believe how big a nursery they are planning in their Tribeca apartment in New York City.

Paging Beyonce and Jay-Z -- you do know that babies are only like a foot and a half long when they're born, right? I mean, there are meatball sandwiches in NYC that are bigger than an infant. Seriously ...

Read on to get the down-low on Beyonce's big ol' baby room blueprint.

I loved the ingenuity and thriftiness of this headboard made from a found wood pallet, and it got me thinking about other projects you could do with the same material. Luckily, the Internet is ripe with clever people sharing their ideas.

Don't you think a colorful coat rack would make a happy addition to any mudroom? See four more home projects below:

It's no surprise that Scandinavian design inspiration has always been sought after in American interiors. They definitely have the clean, bright, and sleek look down -- evident in this soothing gray nursery.

Accented with bright white furniture and a hand-painted forest, it's the kind of space you'd be delighted to have your baby living in. See the full room tour below.

I’ve always wanted a dollhouse. When I was a kid, I loved the Morris Museum gift shop’s dollhouse-furniture collection – I would pore over the amazing, miniscule reproductions of vintage washing machines, typewriters, divans, and Oriental rugs. Somehow, smaller = better – maybe because in a small space, you can change your mind more easily, move things around, try things out with no real commitment (or sweat). I haven’t gotten my own yet – my former mother-in-law had the sweet idea to get one we could decorate together, but we never managed before my marriage to her son ended. At some point, I’ll do it with my daughters, when they are out of the “put everything in my mouth” phase. But in the meantime, I can dream of doing something along the lines of this amazing, living work of art created by textile designer and Esty seller Phoebe Stout as a gift for her niece. Prepare to be dazzled. This is out of this world.

You wouldn't normally associate a deep shade of charcoal paint with a toddler's room, but when I see this space, I don't even question it. It just works! As does the mix of grown-up pieces, quirky kid-friendly decoration, and vintage. It all comes together for a bedroom that Erin, the mom and creator, aptly named Ike's Baby Bachelor Pad
