Posted by Gabrielle Blair
on May 10, 2012 at 4:30 PM

If the last nursery I posted was a mix of bold colors, vintage finds, and grown-up style, this one brings things back to all baby. With a neutral palette featuring mostly whites and soft grays, I think you'll love this sweet nursery and its modern feel.

Disney 'Fantasy' Cruise Decor Is Like Living in a Fairy Tale

Disney Fantasy
The lobby on board -- first room you enter
I think it's pretty safe to say that I want to live on the Disney cruise ship, the Fantasy. After just three nights on board, we were nowhere near ready to leave. It wasn't JUST all the entertainment, the amazing kids' programs, the free babysitting, the adult-free zones, the food, and the spa. I fell head-over-heels in love with the decor.

It literally was like stepping into a Disney movie. Bright, saturated colors everywhere, whimsical shapes, and cushy, cushy, cushy. Is it all just a little bit silly? Um, YEAH. A lot silly. But the whimsy won me over. It made me wonder -- why take life so seriously? Keep reading to see what I mean.

Say Yes to Stripes in the Nursery!

Posted by Gabrielle Blair

I think soothing is what most people go for when it comes to creating a nursery, and soothing is exactly what designer Lindsay Brier managed to achieve with this space for her son, Hawken. Its neutral base with bright pops of orange could definitely work for either gender. But she also used stripes!

See more about how she decorated her baby's room, below.

ikea houseI know most of us aren't quite sure how to handle this housing market situation right now -- do we buy? do we sell? do we refinance? what? tell me! -- but fortunately, there's someone shedding some light on the conundrum, and that someone happens to be IKEA. They've developed a pre-fabricated home that you can purchase for only $80,000. It's a lovely one bedroom, one bath, one level abode that's eco-friendly and full of all the coolest IKEA furnishings. It's been called "hip" and "modern" and it's taking, surprise surprise, the Portland Home & Garden show by storm. I mean, it would, wouldn't it.

So, guys. Are you up for THE ULTIMATE IKEA CHALLENGE of assembling your own house? Think of all those ridged, cylindrical wooden pegs! Think of all the tiny little Allen wrenches! So fun!

Family Must Choose Between Saving Their Kitten Or Their Brand New Couch

Cat In The CouchThis story really broke my heart because -- in my utterly broke state -- every time I sit on my uncomfortable, lumpy old couch, I wish for a new couch. I have it all picked out: It's big enough to sleep on or slouch on, wide enough for sitting or snoozing, with a chaise on the right side, which would be in front of our bookcase, but that’s okay.

One thing I never wish for is a recliner, because I harbor the paranoid suspicion that such an item would only be lying in wait to devour a helpless pet or baby. And it turns out my paranoid suspicions are entirely correct!

Check out this story of the couch that ate the cat, and the family that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Home Design Ideas That Have Gone Horribly Wrong

3D Decorative Wall PanelsWhen I moved into my first apartment, I thought it would be absolutely adorable to paint brightly-colored moldings and window frames to offset the plain cream-colored walls. I agonized over hues, hung paint chips everywhere, and finally settled on the perfect combination. The result? Disaster.

Sometimes we have creative brainstorms that turn into something interesting, a quirky accent that really works. Other times, we end up wanting to call FEMA. But at least decorating disasters don’t just happen to us. The pros who make stuff don’t always get it right, either.

Here are some design ideas that might look good on paper, but actually living with them? Please, just no.

7 Toys You Can Use for Your Babies and Your Pets

Co Sleeper For Dogs And CatsI just broke down my Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper for the second time (sniff! sob!) and went to the website for directions to pack it up properly. What I found there left me absolutely dumbstruck. (Those of you who know me in person should know that is just about impossible.)

Their latest product is a co-sleeper … for pets.

I think we all know no self-respecting cat would bother with a co-sleeper. They’re there strictly for (a) the warmth and (b) the joy of sinking their claws into your toes when you dare to enter their restricted zone.

But for a needy dog, especially a little one … well, darn it all, it kind of makes sense! I’ve noted the similarities between baby toys and pet products before. I wonder what else could be repurposed from babies to “babies” and back again? Here are some baby products that would work for pets too ...
