by Sheri Reed on December 15, 2009 at 12:30 PM

roman blinds Millions of Roman shades and roll-up blinds have been recalled, according to several news sources.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued this recall after several children were reported to have strangled themselves.

As read in the Huffington Post:

"Some 50 million Roman blinds are being recalled in a blind recall of 'historic proportions,' involving 'virtually every Roman blind and roller shade on the market,' (ABC News)."

The CPSC has received reports of five deaths and 16 near strangulations, since 2006, in Roman shades and three deaths, since 2001, in roll-up blinds. The CPSC urges owners of these Roman shades or roll-up blinds to contact the Window Covering Safety Council with information on obtaining a repair kit. The WCSC can also be reached at 1-800-506-4636.

Visit CPSC for photos and more information.
