Tree parts (branches, twigs, and tree slices) make good home design. I mean, did you see the adorable twig coat hooks and door pulls in Farminmama's house? Luh-uv!
I'm a huge fan of bringing nature inside my home — trees! — whether that means scattering acorns and seedlings in my window sills, putting fallen tree branches in vases, having my dad make something for our home from wood, or buying cool designs, made from fairly raw tree materials.

oooh I love it too. A REALLY easy way for cafemommers to make a cool tree candle holder is take a log or thick branch that lays flat without rocking back and forth (you can cut a log in half lengthwise or use a round slice from a log too, chop it down to about 12" long and have DH (or do it yourself like I did) use a drill with a large bit to drill 6 holes down the middle in a row. You can get a bit thats the size of tealights... or a bit thats the size of candlesticks. Its adorable... we're doing a "white christmas" theme this year where everything (except the green of the tree!) is going to be white in our decor this year, so we are doing this with a birch log and using cream candles.. it looks so rustic but still chic! (like this, but ours will have 6 holes http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/imageserver.x/00000000/racing9/woodcandle.jpg)
Another cool way to do it would be like this guy does on his website... but instead of paying $50 bucks you can make them yourself for FREE http://www.birch-logs.com/birch-candle-holders.html

12.99 isnt so bad!
Now those are some really neat ideas.
Oh neat. My sister (the artistic one) used to laquer a trunk slice and then print a poem, burn the edges and attach to the wood. A little outdated but I always thought they were so pretty.
