Itty Bitty Piggies: The Teacup Micro Pig Pet Craze

Sheri Reed

I have to admit micro pigs are pretty adorable and so much smaller than the originals.

And apparently these mini pigs, also called teacup pigs, are leading the next pet trend in Britain.

Via the LA Times article, breeder Jane Croft says micro pigs are clean, intelligent, and loving. They even can be trained to use a litter box.

It would be like having a little chihuahua without the dog hair, right? And no walks! Excellent. They'd even fit in your purse. Awww.

Okay, okay, maybe not. These piglets may start out teacup-sized, but they grow to 12-16 inches tall and 40-65 pounds. Of course, that's still just the size of a medium-sized dog. Not bad...

At this point, the British-bred micro pigs are not sold to the U.S., but maybe once Paris Hilton finds out...

Edited to add: I guess I wasn't too far off. Paris Hilton just got a miniature pot belly pig she's naming Princess Pigelette.

Do you have a pig for a pet? Would you consider one of these micro pigs?
