You've no doubt heard of the government's Cash for Clunkers deal for cars and trucks. Well now, the Department of Energy is hoping to encourage energy conservation with a Cash for Refrigerators (and other kitchen appliances) program.
Starting this fall, you could get a rebate of anywhere between $50 and $200 for buying a new, more energy-efficient appliance. Unlike the clunker deal, you don't have to trade in your old appliance to qualify.
The exact details are being worked out—and they will likely vary from state to state— but the Obama Administration is hoping that the incentive program will help the economy and the environment.
Would you consider buying a new appliance because of the incentive program? What kitchen appliance would you replace first?

Ooh! We desperately need a new fridge. Ours is quite old and not energy efficient at all, and I KNOW it affects our electric bill. This is great news!
I need a new stove badly. Refrigerator needs replaced as well but my stove really only has one burner you can cook on
i'd LOVE a new fridge! we just moved and the new place didnt come with a fridge. buying new was out of the question.
i found one used for 200 it works well enough but its BROWN!!!! LOL!
$50-200 IS NOT enough to convince me to buy a new one. that fridge you have pictured there is at least $1700.... leaving 1500 to finance prolly bc we sure dont have that kind of cash lying around!
I would like a washer/dryer! We currently take our stuff to the laundromat. Ooh I would love to have it in my house!
My disgustingly cheap landlord won't do it, unfortunately.
I'd love to convince hubby to let me get the new front loading washers and dryers, though!
rebecca, you overestimate the cost of fridges! I, too, thought the nice ones were insanely expensive, but they're really not.
I was also thinking that even $200 would only be a drop in the bucket for a really nice fridge. Last time I looked I thought they were pretty expensive.
I dont know that it will convince people to go out and buy them.. but if you ALREADY were... and you could get a nicer model for the extra $200.. sure.
The fridge and stove are both less than 7 years old and are energy star.
The washer/dryer work fine but we HAVE been looking at getting a front loading machine to help save on water and energy costs. DH has wanted to do it this year but I've been putting him off because they're so expensive. An additional $200 off might make me change my mind.........
lmao turns out i under estimated the cost of that fridge... its $2799!!! ON SALE for $2267... thats insane! i could buy a used car for that much!
i did alot of shopping around for a fridge and we just couldnt afford a new one. i wanted a side by side and i got my sxs lol. its just REALLY UGLY.
and i still think this deal stinks!
