Dirty Homes: What Grosses You Out the Most?

other people's dirty homesIf you ever have a CafeMom over for coffee (for real, not in Latte Land), your bathroom and kitchen better be eat-off-the-floor clean. Filth in those rooms are what many moms said they are bothered by most when they visit someone else's house.

"Skanky toilets and dirty dishes. Both gross me out," says diapermakinmama in the private Stay at Home Moms group. "My kitchen and bathroom are spotless if I have guests over. They are clean anyway, but I make sure they shine for guests."

Moms tell of more housecleaning horrors:

  • The back of sinks if they have goo on them, or hair in the bathroom and on the floors.
  • A stained run, cluttered counters, and dirty laundry visible.
  • I always notice smudged windows and mirrors, like food and sticky stuff on the glass.
  • The floors have to be clean. Carpet vacuumed and the kitchen swept. I've been visiting family, and the house makes me want to puke. Every time we leave I have to wash my daughter's feet because they are pitch black.
  • Dishes in the sink. I can't go to bed unless they are done. The smell the next day makes me sick. I have a good friend I love, but she has a nasty house for sure. I go over there and I just want to clean it, LOL!

What dirty part of another person's house skives you out the most? Do you bathe your kids the second they get home from a house that doesn't meet your standard of tidiness? I do!

clutter bothers me.. even if its someone elses clutter, all I can think is about the gobs of dust mites and gross stuff that collects on clutter. Dirty bathrooms gross me out.. it only takes a few minutes to whip out a bottle of cleaner and a shammy and wipe everything down before people come over! I went to a friends house that was stained yellow all around the toilet, the sink was so gross I didnt even want to wash my hands in case some of the dirty water splashed up on me!

Some dishes in the skin wont bother me unless they are smelly and stacked 6 feet tall. Smudges on windows and mirrors dont bother me, but only because I know my 4 year old and 2 year old are the source of all of OUR window smudges. I'll wash the windows and two minutes later its covered in hand prints.. its a never ending battle.. so I wouldnt want to be judged based on that, considering I know how often I clean it, lol.

Dirty floors bother me. It doesnt take more than 5 minutes to vacuum a room.. if you are having guests over, ESPECIALLY kids who may be crawling or sitting on the floor, the least you can do is vacuum or sweep and mop it.

Basically? other peoples mess bothers me altogether, because I feel like a really tidy clean person.. so I hold others to that standard.. but I would never be rude about it. If I felt like their house was so unclean it was dangerous, I would simply not go there

Some of that is a little overboard IMO.  I'm a neat freak and I clean daily.  But there are certain things...like hair on the bathroom floor.  I have hair down to my butt and I shed, keeping hairs from falling places is practically impossible.

Oh and the black feet thing?  I vacuum daily, have clean carpets and scrub my kitchen and bathroom floors once a week on my hands and knees (besides daily sweeping maintenance) and my sons feet are black.  So I don't know what to say about that other than I don't know where it comes from.

When you are a clean momma, you see other's clean/not so clean homes so I see it.  I wanna clean for people but I know it's not my place.  I lose my appetite in filthy homes, not untidy ones.  There is a difference.  Usually this difference comes in the way of odors.

I can handle clutter and such but I hate going to someone's house and seeing goop on the floors and urine around the toilet. I recently went to a family member's house and there was literally a quarter inch thick layer and black goop around the bottom of the fridge...it was filthy. the freezer was also filthy...I couldn't help myself I just cleaned it for her. She is going through a divorce so I can let it slide. What I couldn't bring myself to clean and did not know  was there at first or my daughter would not have been using that bathroom was a very deep puddle around the toilet in one of the bathrooms...her four year old couldn't aim and noone cleaned it up...it was pretty bad...

A dirty bathroom totally grosses me out!    I make sure I wipe down my counters & floors in the bathroom & clean the toilet daily.  I can't stand a dirty bathroom!
