Father and exhibition designer Robert Guest has gotten up every morning of every school day and written letters to his children for the past 15 years. His wife Gloria
collected thousands of these letters, from lunchboxes and laundry, and now you can read them in Issue 10 of Esopus magazine.
Home life can be so mundane, so everyday and overlooked. But I love the idea of this father taking a moment in the mundane of every morning to connect with his children through the intimacy of personal letters. I can only imagine they're full of life and love and home.

This is so lovely. I bought a journal when I was pregnant with my daughter, planning to write in it (to her) a little bit throughout the pregnancy and after she was born and for years later. I dreamed of all the stacks of beautiful journals she'd have to read as an adult--and get to know her mom and learn about her own early beginnings. My baby will be 10 months old this week. I've made three entries.
Yeah, it is inspiring but also depressing, I guess, in that way that it reminds us we haven't been writing the letters. I have a pregnancy journal for my first son. Nothing after he was born, I don't think. Luckily I blogged my second's first year, which includes a lot of my oldest son too. At least there's that.
