Recently I read J.D.'s post How I Cut My Television Bill in Half over on Get Rich Slowly. Essentially, his family cut back to basic cable channels only.
And I began to wonder... could our family give up cable television?
When I thought about our cable TV usage and dug deep on this question, I realized I wasn't ready to give it up.
Cable TV is not really serving my own viewing needs anymore since I watch my three TV shows online now (LOST, Grey's Anatomy, and 30 Rock). I like to watch them when it's convenient for me, and I'm too cheap frugal to get a DVR.
But I realized cable TV does lend to an important part of my sanity. While my kids aren't glued to our TV every second and I send them outside to play as much as possible, there are those times, like way way too early on Saturday morning, when TV earns me a good hour of peace and quiet. And as most moms will attest, that's priceless.
So for now, we're keeping cable TV for the kids. But really, I guess, we're keeping it for me.

I could easily give up cable TV during the warmer months but come winter, I would miss it BUT I could live without it! I only have basic cable now anyway...
We did the same thing - we gave up super cable and have just basic broadcast/cable which costs us only $10 a month! awesome deal :) We get alot of free movies from the library...... I don't think I would give up the cable entirely. But if I had to choose between cable and internet, the cable could go LOL
This is easy. We don't HAVE cable TV so I wouldn't miss it a bit. I am not sure we have any TV right now and we don't plan to subscribe in the near future (not going to spend the money). We read a lot and also rent movies. We also play family games. My kids would love it if we got a satelite dish (cable is unavailable where I live), but we just can't stretch things that far and are OK doing without it.
I couldn't give up tv. In the summer I could because we spend a lot of time outside. But I still wouldn't want to give up my tv. Being a SAHM I prerecord a lot of tv shows on Tivo so I couldn't give it up. Plus I don't know if my oldest would let us she loves theNoggin channel. lol...
No because my hubby loves ESPN and I love having the extra cartoon channels. We just got FIOS so our bill is a bundle of cable, internet and phone and it works for us.
I recently gave up cable tv because I thought time warner was charging way too much for it. It was hard in the begining because I had watched so much tv and it had become somewhat of a stress reliever. Now I know how much time had been wasted on tv. If you think about it tv is an absolute waste of time because nothing is accomplished. Now I have nore time to read , play with my son, ect. However I do spend more time on the internet. :)
We could give up our cable T.V.,Especially in the Summer. We are always at the pool,Or outside doing something. In the Winter,I usually watch Programs on regular Digital channels!
No, we can't give up something we never have had. :)
i've considered it. and we might do it during the summer months. but sometimes cable tv IS my sanity.
We've considered it but no I don't think we could. When its nice out its not a big deal but on those dreary days where all they do is scream and fight, it is my sanity!!
