5 Budget-Friendly Ideas to Make Your Workspace Sparkle

I'm a fan of decorating. I also happen to be a fan of saving a few coins. With two little ones (2-year-old and 9-month-old boys), it's not uncommon for me to work from home -- and because of this, I really wanted to create a space that's a little stylish and, more importantly, affordable.

(Can I get an amen, mamas?)

A home office can be a fun project to tackle. I mean, it's your space -- your special place to do boss stuff and let all your creative juices flow. With my home office, I wanted to add some decorative touches that reflect my personality and didn't cost a fortune.

Here's how I was able to bring mine to life without breaking the bank.

I'm kinda obsessed with motivational quotes and have them all around my home. I love Etsy, and I found great shops like Printable Wisdom and Paper Canoe Printables that have affordable digital prints you can print yourself, online, or at your local drugstore. (You can also create your own if you have cool fonts on your computer.) The prints I purchased were about $3–$5 each (I got most on sale), and I added them to RIBBA frames ($2.99–$9.99 each; ikea.com).

(In case you're wondering, I randomly picked up the Audrey Hepburn quote at Icing a couple of years ago. It was in the clearance section for $2.)

One piece on my gallery wall that was free and worth so much is the canvas painting my 2-year-old son made for me. We were at a crafting event and saw an empty canvas, some paint, and a few brushes. Score!

Is anyone else a fan of florals? This DIY Floral Letter project satisfies my need for blooms without breaking the bank. All in all, it cost about $20 (I purchased everything from Jo-Ann Fabrics) and is a fun touch next to my "Get It, Girl!" Wall Decal ($10, TheLovelyWall/etsy.com).

I can't tell you how happy I was to see this OK Vase Set ($19.99, target.com) from the Oh Joy! collection. I got mine on sale for $16, and it serves two purposes: reminding me things will be okay, and giving a shout-out to the state I now call home, Oklahoma. Seeing as it's, you know, a vase, I added a faux garden rose from Jo-Ann's ($1 on sale).

And, what do you see next to the vase? Why yes, another quote. "Let it go" is so simple, and yet, it can sometimes be hard to do. (It's good to have a reminder.) Shown here: "Let It Go" Art Print ($5, Paper Canoe Printables/etsy.com) in a RIBBA Frame ($2.99, ikea.com).

Last but not least are those everyday office items that add an extra splash of character. Do I use pencils in my day-to-day hustle? No. But I couldn't pass up on these little beauties ($1 for the pack), along with the "important things" memo pad ($3) and pink clipboard ($3) -- all of which I scooped up in that mini shopping section at Target. (They always get me!)

  2. Don't be afraid to show off your kid's artistic masterpieces. Remember, they're originals.
  3. Florals add a whimsical touch to your space. Incorporate them where you can -- and don't be afraid to use faux blooms!
  4. Find decorative accessories that showcase your personality.
  5. Don't forget about the everyday items. Sure, they might be ordinary, but they are super fun.
