It's a Snap: The Non-Toxic, Totally Safe Way to Whiten Your Grimiest Whites

We love extra white, extra bright laundry, but we don't love bleach and its harsh treatment of our skin and the environment. So what's a girl to do? Some people will tell you to try baking soda or hydrogen peroxide, but we have a new favorite solution: lemons.

You can just add lemon juice (about 1/2 cup) to a normal load of laundry with your detergent, but you'll get even more whitening power if you let them soak together.

To do this, slice a lemon in rounds and add them to a large pot of water. Bring to a boil, turn off the heat, add the linens, and let them soak for an hour. Then wash them with the rest of your laundry.

It sounds strange, but people swear by it. The acidity of lemons breaks down stains (even gross armpit stains, thank God) and puts that crisp, bright sheen back into your clothes.

It's also totally natural, totally safe, and totally fine for the earth. So basically, yes to lemons. Always.
