DIY Valentine's Day Pencil Arrows Make Great Gifts for School Friends

Don’t you just love Valentine’s Day? Growing up, my favorite part of the holiday was the classroom parties. I loved passing out homemade valentines to all of my friends.

Help your child spread love into the classroom with these easy-to-make and inexpensive adorable pencil arrows. For less than $10, you and your child can make special homemade surprises for her classmates.

Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Pencils
  • Hole puncher
  • Heart hole puncher
  • Glue dots
  • Baker’s twine
  • Cardstock (pink, red)
  • Glitter cardstock

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut a 2” x 3” rectangle from your glitter cardstock. 

Step 2: Create feathers by folding the rectangle in half. Cut a triangle from the top of the rectangle. Then cut a point from the bottom rectangle by cutting two triangles from it.

Step 3: Cut lines into each side of the “feathers.”

Step 4: Cut a 1.25” square from the glitter cardstock.

 

Step 5: Cut the square in half diagonally. 

Step 6: Stick a glue dot onto the top of the pencil and stick it to the feather.

Step 7: Stick a glue dot onto the triangle and stick to the bottom of the pencil. 

Step 8: Punch hearts using your heart hole puncher out of the cardstock. If you don’t have a heart puncher, simply cut out hearts using your scissors.

 

Step 9: Punch a hole into one side of the heart. 

Step 10: Cut off a piece of baker’s twine. 

Step 11: Thread the piece of baker’s twine through the heart and tie it into a loop. 

Step 12: Loop the string around the pencil and pull the heart through the loop to create a knot and connect the heart to the pencil.

Step 13: Write your child’s name on the heart so the class knows who it came from.
