Make a Perfect Gift Bow in 6 Easy Steps (PHOTOS)

Make your own present bowOf all the things you can make from scratch, a gift bow seems like a giant waste of time, doesn't it? I mean, who really has the energy to top every present with a homemade bow? Answer: me. A mom of three who also works full-time. And you can do it too. In fact, it is one of the easiest, most original, handiest things you can do when you're a busy mom.

Why?

You're never without a bow! Last Saturday my husband and I found ourselves two hours away from a birthday party with no wrapping paper or ribbon on hand. So what did we do? We decorated some butcher paper with markers, folded a card from printer paper, and made our own bow. It looked SO much better than the store-bought kind and only took about five minutes to complete. Here is how we did it:

  • Gather Your Supplies

    1

The first thing to do is get your supplies together. You will need a stapler, a page from a magazine in the color you want, double-sided tape (or glue dots), and scissors.

  • Cut Out Strips

    2

Cut out nine strips of paper. You need the following sizes: three strips of 10 1/2" x 3/4"; three strips of 9 1/2" x 3/4"; two strips of 8 1/2" x 3/4"; and one strip of 3 1/2" x 3/4".

  • Start Folding Strips

    3

Fold your first strip into a figure eight. Staple it closed.

  • Fold All Nine Strips

    4

Continue folding the other long strips. Turn the final short piece into a circle and secure its end.

  • Layer the Pieces

    5

Layer the three longest pieces on top of each other and secure each with the double-sided tape.

  • Secure the Final Piece

    6

Add the circle in the center and secure with double-sided tape. The bow is done! See the next slide for the complete look.

  • Give Gift

    7

This is what the completed bow looks like atop a gift. Perfection! Awesomeness! Let the compliments roll in ....
