'Teen Mom' Couple's DIY Room Makeover Is an All-Too-Familiar Fail (PHOTOS)

OMG 16

Catelynn Lowell & Tyler Baltierra homeI've gotta hand it to Teen Mom couple Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra. Despite a tough few years which included giving up their daughter Carly and tackling issues on VH1's Couple's Therapy -- they have a beautiful home together and seem happier than ever. Just like any young couple, they're working to make their home everything they've always wanted. But I'll be real -- Catelynn and Tyler's most recent home DIY has me cringing, just a little. The task at hand? Painting their living room.

Hey, at least Catelynn loves the new result. The old room? Pictured right -- a deep brown. The new room? Eeeesh. To say the walls are a pumpkin orange would be an understatement. Let's take a look at what they have got going on:

I mean, to each their own. When it comes to home design, everything is very personal. The tastes of one couple definitely won't match the tastes of another. With that said, though, this room is just very loud now. When it comes to choosing paint colors: opting for a punchy color is always a risk. Instead of turning this whole room a bright orange, I may have painted one accent wall with the pumpkintastic color and kept the other three a bit more tame.

So what's a couple to do when a room turns out not to their liking? Loads of retailers have a "love it or leave it" guarantee. Is repainting it a hassle? Of course. But the home should be a sanctuary. The extra day or two of home DIY work is worth a result that homeowners want to come back to. A result that makes you smile.

Luckily, Catelynn and Tyler love this orange shade. One thing's for sure -- it'll surely be perfect come Halloween 2014.

Have you ever hated a room after repainting it? Did you remedy the situation?

If they love it how is it a fail? I think the orange looks great with the dark wood.

Take into account the lighting in the room. It may not look the same in real life.

i think they have a beautiful home.

It looks great. Maybe a little jealousy coming from the author who seems very acquainted with fixing bad color choices.

I painted my walls in my old apartment bright pink and I didn't care what anyone thought. I thought it looked great.

I love the color. Gives off a very country home vibe.

My whole kitchen is that "punchy pumpkin" color, and I am constantly getting compliments on it. My attached living room is a deep sage green color, and my couches are deep brown leather. It looks FANTASTIC. The only downside is that psychological studies have shown that orange makes people hungry. Maybe not the best color for the kitchen...

They have a historic home, that's a great color to blend the classic and modern. It looks great, and like the author of the article points out, everyone has their own taste, so why even write an article about?
