Don't you just hate those people who ignore pooper scooper laws? It's infuriating, right? There you are, rushing to catch the subway, or taking what should be a nice, relaxing stroll in your neighborhood and bam -- you step squarely in some crap left behind by an inconsiderate pet owner. Just gross. Well, the ingenious officials in one Spanish town have figured out a way to give all those thoughtless jerks just what they deserve.
If you fail to pick up your dogs poop in Brunete, an area right outside Madrid, the abandoned fecal matter will be scooped, packaged, and sent back to the person who left it behind. It's all apart of a campaign to reduce the amount of excrement littering the city sidewalks and streets.
Here is how it works: volunteers are asked to keep an eye out for these rude dog owners. Once spotted, they spark up a conversation and get the dog's name and breed. And since pets have to be registered with a database, they find the owner's address from there. The poop is then placed in a box marked "lost property" and shipped back to the unsuspecting offender. Awesome!
Don't get me wrong. I am a pet owner and there have been times when I have felt like leaving his poo there, especially when the weather is miserable or I am particularly exhausted. But I STILL PICK IT UP. It's not just the law, it's the right thing to do. I think all cities should start this program. It's a lesson they aren't soon to forget.
Do you think this is a good idea?
